David H. Hamblett, 94, a longtime Hudson resident, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening, February 7, 2017 at the All American Assisted Living in Londonderry, where he has resided for the past four months.
Born in Nashua on December 23, 1922, he was a son of the late Aaron Luther and Margaret (Munroe) Hamblett. David attended Hudson schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1941. During World War II, David served in the Navy as a Water Tender Second Class in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre of operations from January 1943 until his honorable discharge in March 1946.
After the war, Mr. Hamblett returned to Hudson and was employed with Nashua Corporation for 40 years, retiring in 1987.
He held memberships in the American Legion Post 48, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5791 both of Hudson and the Military Order of the Cooties. David had been a member of the American Legion Firing Squad for Veterans Funerals for several years. He was also active with the Nashua Senior Center, loved music, playing his guitar and at one time owned and piloted his own airplane.
On Christmas Day of 1948, David married Beatrice Harvey and they shared 64 years together until her passing on May 11, 2013.
Members of his family include three daughters, Sharon L. Hamblett of Hudson, Diane B. Ciavarra and Rick of Florida and Joyce E. Hamblett of California; a son and his wife, David A. and Peggy Hamblett of Hudson; five grandchildren, John Hamblett of California, Jeremy Ciavarra of Florida, Jason Hamblett and his wife Shannon of Litchfield, Christopher of Milford and Brad Hamblett and his wife Kristen of Litchfield; two great-grandchildren, Brianna Hamblett and Jason Hamblett Jr; and his beloved dog “Chico”. In addition to his wife and parents, David was also predeceased by his brothers and sisters.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. His funeral service will be held in the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, Saturday afternoon, February 11th at 1:00 p.m. Friends are invited to attend. Navy Honors and interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the New Hampshire Veterans Home, 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276.
