COSTELLO, WILLIAM E. JR.

William E. Costello, Jr., 81, of Hudson, NH, formerly of Lowell and Tyngsboro, MA, passed away Thursday morning, April 19, 2018 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua after a brief illness.

Born in Lowell on September 20, 1936, he was the son of the late William E. and Theresa (Delahanty) Costello. Bill was a graduate of Lowell High School and furthered his education at the Lowell Trade School where he studied to be a licensed electrician. A Navy veteran, he served in the Naval Reserves for eight years and was activated during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
Mr. Costello was an electrician and worked for many contractors during his career as a member of the IBEW Electrical Union.

Bill and his wife Nancy E. (Gagnon) Costello were married at St. Michael’s Church in Lowell and made their home in Tyngsboro to raise their family before moving to Hudson, NH where they have resided for the past 14 years. He was a beloved husband, dad, grandfather and uncle, who will be remembered for his radiant and infectious smile, shining blue eyes and a kind word for everyone.

Bill coached Tyngsboro Boys hockey at Skate 3 for several years while his sons where involved in the game. In retirement he enjoyed spending time with family, from celebrating special events and holidays, going to and supporting the local music scene at places like Boardinghouse Park, Indian Hill Music and Tyler Park concerts. He also enjoyed day trips to the coasts of Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts, exploring Newburyport, Perkins Cove, Portsmouth, etc. with family. Bill particularly enjoyed spending time in the summer at the family camp on Paugus Bay at Lake Winnepausaukee over the years. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren, felt blessed to have seen many of them graduate from college, buy homes of their own and have children, his great-grandsons, his legacy!

Members of his family include his wife Nancy, with whom he shared over 61 years together; his four children, Carol Ann Costello Fike and her husband Richard, William E. Costello III and his wife Debbie, Wayne Costello, and was predeceased by his daughter, Susan T. Costello; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Snyder and her husband Clint, and Leigha, Jessica, Lindsey, Ian, Chelsea and Paidin Costello; two great-grandsons, Mali and Nate; and a third great-grandchild due in June; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Doris Gagnon, Marion Gagnon, William and Stacey Gagnon and Alan and Karen Gagnon; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. In addition to his daughter and parents, Bill was predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy (Costello) Humphries and Theresa (Costello) Brennan.

The family would to thank our ‘new’ family for the past 6 weeks, the many dedicated staff at Southern NH Medical Center, who took loving care of my husband, dad and us! You made our journey easier. And most importantly, grateful for the support of his wife of 61+ years for all their time together, helping each other thru the pleasures and challenges of life and watching their family blossom.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, on Wednesday morning, April 25th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. followed by his funeral service in the funeral home at 11:30.
