Peter James Lafferty, 31, of Nashua, died peacefully at home on Friday morning, December 2, 2016. He was born August 26, 1985, in Manchester, the son of Tim and Joan Lafferty of Nashua. He was raised and educated in Milford and Nashua. He was a 2004 graduate of Nashua High School and was a member of the National Honor Society.
Pete lived with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and most recently cancer, yet that did not stop him from living an active and full life. He was a member of Crossway Christian Church in Nashua for many years, and more recently was involved in Crossway’s Milford Campus over the past two years. He enjoyed being part of the ministry and he had a genuine love for God and for people.
He was also actively involved in Joni and Friends, a ministry outreach to individuals and families affected by disabilities. He served in a variety of ways throughout the years, and always enjoyed being involved in their annual Family Retreats, which were often the highlight of his year.
He was a member of the Nashua-Hudson Toastmasters Club and served in a variety of roles including President in 2014. Pete was honored to receive the club’s Toastmaster of the Year award in 2011 and 2016. In addition, he was a big New England sports fan and took pride in the many championships that were won during his lifetime.
Pete confronted his disease with a level of courage and grace that was truly a testament to his faith, hope and love of Jesus. He inspired his family, friends, and everyone he met by his inspirational speaking, his poetry, his online posts, and most importantly, through the manner in which he lived his life to bring honor and glory to God. We are grateful to everyone who was part of his life, and we’re thankful for the wonderful care that he received from all the medical professionals, caregivers and volunteers over the years.
Besides his parents, he is survived by his maternal grandparents, Marge and Bud Disbrow of Cheshire, CT; his paternal grandmother, Toni Lafferty of Groveland, MA; aunts and uncles, Linda Disbrow of Hamden, CT; Jim and Judi Lafferty of Groveland, MA; John and Lauri Lafferty of Evanston, IL; Tom and Maureen Lafferty of Portland, ME; Liz Lafferty of Manchester, and Joanne Lafferty of Portland, ME; and cousins, Molly and Dan Lindberg of South Portland, ME, and Noah and Sophie Lafferty of Evanston, IL. He was predeceased by his beloved brother, Joe Lafferty, his grandfather, James Lafferty, and an uncle, Paul Disbrow.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Friday, December 9, 2016 from 3-5pm and 7-9pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at Nashua High School South, 36 Riverside Street, Nashua, NH at 4:30 pm with a reception afterwards. I am so very sorry for your loss of Peter, even though I didn't get to know him personally. Losing a loved one isn't easy, my sincere condolences go out to all the friends and family of Pete. He seemed like such a kind-hearted man. But we do have a comforting hope of being able to see our dead loved ones again. It's found at Acts 24:15 which says,"There is going to be a resurrection." We can have complete trust and confidence in those words because she everything God promises always comes true. For more comforting promises from the Bible check out jw.org.

I am so sorry to hear of Pete's passing. We both joined Toastmasters about the same time he was also my mentor. While here on earth he shared peace and joy to all who met him. Now he is doing the same in Our Lords Kingdom. Blessings to you Tim and Joan to have had a son while on earth that gave so much to everyone. He will be sadly missed by all.

Tim & Joan, Thru the years you both have been such a witness of faith to your friends and the community. Knowing that this day was approaching does not make the separation easier but knowing that Pete and Joey are whole in the presents of our Lord must bring you more hope that your coming reunion will be divine! God bless you both as you grieve this additional loss. Blessings, Mike & Dianne Buczynski

Dear Tim and Joan, I rejoice in the Lord that God brought Peter to enrich the lives of so many and point them to Christ. The day he was called home I woke up with the verse, " for me to live is Christ but to die is gain." When I heard he was called home I was thankful for that perspective God graciously reminded me. You both are outstanding examples of the power of Heaven God gives to parents who are too soon called to release their Beloved to his eternal home. Our prayers and thoughts are with you.

Tim and Joan, I was so sorry to see of Pete's passing on facebook. We met over 20 years ago when lived in NH and my son Joe was first diagnosed with Duchenne. I always enjoyed reading his posts about the Red Sox, NE Patriots and Nascar! He seemed to have a great spirit. I can only imagine how painful this is and my deepest sympathies to you and your family. Regards, Margaret Cohan

Pete was such a strong witness for Jesus Christ. He touched so many lives, so many people and was an incredible example of how God uses man to spread His love and message here on earth. He lived such a full and important life, not allowing his disability to stop him from doing the things he loved. Although we know that he is now healed and home with God, he will be missed by so many. In Christ's love, Erin and Greg Roberts

For the time I knew Pete, I always saw him as someone full of life that never let his disability get him down. He was a faithful friend to me and my friend (also named Tim) and a man called by God to reach others using personal experiences. Save us a spot in eternal life and we'lol see you again when our time comes.

Tim and Joan, I was so blessed to be introduced to Pete through the Plummers three or four years ago. I had the opportunity to meet Pete and talk about what God was doing at Nashua and UNH. It was a testimony to God's power how Pete strove to worship the Lord. I am grieving with you, and eagerly await the day when you will be reunited with him in heaven. Sincerely, Caroline Hampson

Pastor Tim and Joan, my daughter, Stacy Douglas, told me about Pete's passing. I want you to know that you are both in my prayers as you adjust to being separated from Pete, temporarily. Pete was an amazing young man! I met him when he prayed for me one Sunday, after the service. His prayer gave me a lot of comfort, and I was struck by his spiritual wisdom. I know that God used Pete, as he reflected so beautifully, Christ's patient suffering and love for others. I pray that the Lord Pete loved will bring you a sweet peace at this time.

Tim and Joan, my deepest sympathies for your loss. Praying for God's great comfort and grace be felt by your whole family as we all look forward to reuniting with Pete again one day! It was truly an honor to know Pete though Crossway. He never forgot my name, and seemed never to be without a warm, welcoming smile. To call him an inspiration is an understatement; His friendly, outgoing nature, his bravery, his bold testament to God's work-- are a legacy you both can be proud of as his mom and dad. What a beautiful, special soul. He is already missed, and yet is celebrating his homecoming at this very moment... Much love in Christ, Tami.

When I think of Godly men I have met who have impacted the Kingdom tremendously due to the way they lived their life, Pete is right near the top of the list. He impacted adults. He impacted youth. He impacted disabled people. He impacted healthy people. And he most definitely impacted my family. He blessed each of us before we headed out on a life changing family mission trip. He connected with our teenage daughters and most definitely connected with our young son (giving him hot wheels cars from his own childhood stash and thus making a buddy for life). His kindness and compassion was combined with a determined spirit that made Pete such a beautiful piece of God's tapestry here on earth. Pete, you will be missed. Well done good and faithful servant...

It was a blessing to know Pete. He was a kind and gentle soul. "To everything there is a season, A time for every purpose under heaven,,,A time to be born, And a time to die...A time to weep, And a time to laugh; A time to mourn, And a time to dance". I remember the dancing at Joni and Friends, the joy in Pete's eyes; the talent show's that Pete led, he was an awesome young man. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult time. Stay focused on our Heavenly Father as He has promised in His Word that He will inevitably maneuver the confrontations of life to produce something good for us in our lives as we love Him and trust Him. God Bless.
