Philip Webster Mercer, 82, of Sanbornton, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin, New Hampshire.

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on December 11, 1934, he was a son of Beatrice Webster Mercer and Harold Hubert Mercer. He attended Nashua schools, graduating from Nashua High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in marketing. He resided in Nashua and Hollis until moving to the Lakes Region in 1995.

Phil was employed in various marketing and printing management positions with Royal Business Forms, Sanders Associates, and P. W. Mercer, Inc., in Nashua and Amherst, New Hampshire, and Tylergraphics in Laconia, New Hampshire. After retirement, he obtained his New Hampshire realtor’s license and at the time of his death was employed by Berkshire Hathaway Verani Realty in Belmont, New Hampshire.
He was always active in his community serving on the Hollis board of selectmen for eighteen years, on the Meredith conservation committee and on the Sanbornton zoning board of adjustment. He happily spent many summers on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee, but most of all enjoyed his time at Bruigean An Duna, Ballyferriter, Co. Kerry, Ireland. His last boat was named for his favorite Irish Gaelic expression – Tog Bog E. Along with boating and swimming, he enjoyed skiing and served as a Gunstock Area Commissioner as well as being a member of the National Ski Patrol. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1955 until 1963.

Phil is survived by his wife, Abigail Stanton Mercer; his children, Hugh (Dorreen) Mercer of Madbury, NH; Susan Mercer of Warsaw, NY; Jennifer (Christopher) Simpson of Owego, NY; Jon (Kristina) Mercer of Lawrenceville, GA; Katherine (Shawn) England of Bow, NH; ten grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his sister, Barbara (Mercer) Bryant, who passed away in 1986.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Sunday, October 29th from 5 to 7 p.m. His funeral will be held in The Shaw Chapel of The First Church, U.C.C., One Concord St., Nashua on Monday October 30, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. followed by burial at Edgewood Cemetery, 107 Amherst Street, Nashua.
