Dorothy C. (McDermott) McManus widow of Lawrence P. “Mac” McManus, and formerly of Nashua, passed away Sunday evening, January 11, 2015 at the Watson Fields Assisted Living in Dover.

   One of four girls, Dorothy was born on March 18, 1923 in Woburn, Massachusetts to Catherine and John McDermott. Mrs. McManus was a graduate of Woburn High School Class of 1941. She attended secretarial school in Boston before working for AT & T. Dorothy married the love of her life “Mac” in September 1946. Dorothy and Mac traveled the world in service of the U.S. Air Force as they their four sons. Upon Mac’s retirement from the Air Force in 1963 they settled in Nashua where she continued raising their four children.

    Dorothy worked many years for the American Cancer Society before taking a job with the Bank of New Hampshire. She retired from the Bank of New Hampshire after twenty years of service. During her retirement years she and Mac helped raise their grandchildren and traveled with friends. She enjoyed shopping with her friends, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren who will miss her incredibly.

    Members of her family include four sons and three daughters-in-law, Larry and Mary Beth McManus of Portsmouth, John and Ava McManus of Manchester, Tom  McManus of Lee and Robert and Cheri McManus of Hopkinton; eight grandchildren, Conor McManus and his wife Leah of NE, Philip McManus and his wife Megan of Boxborough, MA, James McManus of Dover, Amanda McManus of Manchester, Jake McManus, Sam McManus and Ben McManus of Hopkinton and Rachel McManus of Portsmouth; and her full of life great-granddaughter, Ella McManus of Boxborough, MA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

      Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Lawrence; and her three sisters, Margaret Parks, Helen Sullivan and Joan Gorton.

     Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, Spring Street, Nashua, Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at Noon.
