Spallone, John

John W. Spallone, 86, a Nashua resident for more than four decades and a Korean War veteran, died Wednesday morning, August 1, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his family after a lengthy illness.

Born in Waterbury, Connecticut on August 9, 1931, a son of the late John B. and Anna (Rossi) Spallone. John graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1958 with a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

John joined the Navy in 1950, where he met his wife, Sally, at Patuxent River, Maryland Naval Air Station. They were married in July 1954.
An avid volunteer throughout his life, John lived by the philosophy “noblesse oblige” which holds to the notion that a person performs service for others, not for gain or recognition, but simply because it’s the right thing to do. He made many lifelong friends through his volunteering efforts.

John was predeceased by his wife, Celeste “Sally” Spallone; his brother Dominic; sisters Josephine, Angela and Louise.

Members of his family include a son, Dr. John W. Spallone, Jr. of San Francisco; two daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Tim Zappala of Sunapee, NH and Nancy and Tim Nye of Brookline, NH; five grandchildren, Andrew and his wife Nicole, Sarah and her husband Dr. Richard Rothman, Alex Nye and twins, Eric and Benjamin Nye; a brother, Daniel Spallone and his wife Betty of Waterbury, CT; and a great-granddaughter, Madison.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday evening, August 7th from 5 to 7 p.m. Interment will be private. Donations can be made to Future in Sight, 25 Walker Street, Concord, NH 03301 or the Nashua Soup Kitchen, 2 Quincy Street, Nashua, NH 03060. Our belated condolences. So sad to read that John has passed away. My wife (Angela) and I have very fond memories of John and Sally. We shared some lovely experiences together whilst travelling through Spain and France in 1998. Such a long time ago but the memories are still vivid as we had such a good time with John and Sally. The memories we have most is his loving and caring nature and his sense of humour. He's with Sally now.

I was fortunate to have met John through my work at Future in Sight (formerly NHAB) many years ago. He was a pleasure to be with whether it be a volunteer event, making a video or just a visit. In recent times, I enjoyed his Facebook posts and staying connected through social media. He truly was the best. My sincere condolences for your loss

I met your father the summer of 2007 during a weeklong sail on "The Victory Chimes". He was an inspiration to me. My spouse had just been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Your father provided comfort and inspiration to me. He was a shining light during a difficult time. I've enjoyed seeing his FB posts as my life went in a different direction after my loss. His spirit will live on strong as was his personality.

My cousin John and I became friends in recent years, especially in connection with my mom, Louise (Rossi), gatherings of the extended family, and his various video-making activities. John came to her 100th birthday party and paid her an eloquent and memorable tribute for which we, her children, all owe him gratitude. I will miss his cheerful and generous presence.

Elaine and I were fortunate to have known John. We hope you can take comfort in knowing that he is now in Heaven. Elaine and I as well as our European relatives and friends will be lighting candles and saying prayers for John and all of you when attending church this weekend.
