Carolyn Louise (Carling) Pizzo, 71, of Nashua, passed away Wednesday evening, September 30, 2015 at Lawrence General Hospital in Lawrence, MA with her family at her side, after a brief illness.
Born in Nashua on March 9, 1944, she was a daughter of the late Albert E. and Mariette I. (Levesque) Carling. Carolyn was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1962 and furthered her education at Rivier College now Rivier University where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and her Master’s degree from Antioch College in Keene.
A longtime teacher, Mrs. Pizzo taught art and history for the Nashua School Department until her retirement in 2006. She was a member of the Nashua Retired Teachers Association and the New Hampshire Retired Teachers Association.
In addition to her home in Nashua, Carolyn also resided in Fernandina Beach, Florida and Eastport, Maine. Fondly known for her independence, she loved traveling in her RV around the country and visiting many National Parks. An accomplished artist, Carolyn owned a small business, Cottage Glass, and made stained glass, jewelry and seasonal glass pins favored by teachers in Nashua and surrounding school districts. She loved the music of Bob Dylan and was very fond of animals especially her many dogs.
Members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, David A. and Ruthie Pizzo of Fernandina Beach, FL; three brothers, The Rev. Richard Albert Carling and his wife Lorraine of Camp Verde, Arizona, Gregory C. Carling of San Diego, CA and Gary E. Carling and his wife Allyson (Brooks) Carling of Westford, MA; a niece, Amanda and a grandniece, Isabel Katelena Terrazas.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Sunday afternoon from 2 to 5 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Christopher Church, 62 Manchester Street, Nashua, Monday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend and will gather at the church.
