Mary F.  (Cooney) McCarthy, 56, of Beauview Avenue, Nashua, died suddenly on Thursday, January 10, 2019. She lived a full and happy life, centered on the husband and three sons she adored, while dealing with the effects of primary pulmonary hypertension, a diagnosis she received almost twenty years ago.

Mary leaves her husband of 31 years, Dennis P. McCarthy; her three sons who were the light of her life; Kyle, Samuel and Patrick, all of Nashua; her two sisters, her lifelong best friends; Ann and her husband Craig Trombly of Oxford, Massachusetts and Catherine and her husband Richard Williamson of Spencer, Massachusetts; her mother-in-law, Dennise McCarthy of Nashua, who was like a second mother to her; sister-in-law, Meghan and her husband Don Whalen of Nashua; brothers-in-law, Jerry and his wife Joanne McCarthy of Thornton, NH and Kyle McCarthy of Chalfont, Pennsylvania. Mary was a very special aunt to her many nieces and nephews; Neal and Kevan Trombly, Kaylen Sahagian, William and Daniel Vangos, DJ and Deirdre Whelan, Donovan, Luke, Bridget, Sally and Maddie McCarthy.

Born in Worcester, Massachusetts, she was a daughter of the late George A. Cooney, Jr. and Theresa F. (Kavanagh) Cooney. She was also predeceased by her brother, George M. Cooney, who died in a mountain climbing accident in 1984.

Mary graduated from Auburn High School, and received her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of New Hampshire, Whittemore Business School. She was a Commercial Lines Manager for Chubb Insurance in both Boston and Newport Beach, California for several years.

She was a communicant of St. Christopher Parish in Nashua and an avid supporter of her sons’ many athletic pursuits. She and Dennise rarely missed one of the boys’ games. Mary was loved and admired by all who knew her and will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Mary walked through life and its challenges with a grace few people possess.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday, January 14th from 3 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Christopher Church, 62 Manchester Street, Nashua, Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. My condolences to the family of Mary McCarthy. Our loving Heavenly Father, Jehovah, has given us the wonderful assurance that we can see our loved ones again by means of a resurrection to an earth transformed into a beautiful paradise. (Acts 24:15). We can always rely on the God of comfort to help us endure any trials or obstacles, especially the painful loss of a dear loved one.

I met Mary at Chubb in Orange County when Dennis was stationed at Camp Pendleton. She was one of those rare individuals where you felt good about yourself if you were fortunate enough to call her your friend. She was full of class and grace even when she was eating her PBJ sandwich EVERYDAY of the week...52 weeks a year. I don’t pretend to understand why Mary needed to leave this world now, but I do believe that God has a plan for all of us. I’m also sure she’s healthy now, looking down at Dennis and her boys...smiling with pride. Thoughts and prayers to the McCarthy and Cooney family.

To Dennis, Kyle, Sam and Patrick, I'll never forget the countless hours I spent watching Vinny play with your boys or simply run around your yard. Mary always made us feel welcome. She will always have a place in our hearts.
