Janice Lucille Turmel, 82, of Hudson, wife of Robert L. Turmel, passed away at her home, Tuesday morning, February 24, 2015 after a period of declining health.

    Born in Hudson on March 4, 1932, she was a daughter of the late Julian and Anna (Krugla) Cherkes. Mrs. Turmel was educated in Nashua schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1949.

     Janice began her career in the office at Nashua Corporation and then was employed by the State of New Hampshire for many years. She worked as a clerk / typist and clerk stenographer in the unemployment office and later the department of welfare.

    Her many interests include playing bingo, cards, game-boards, making puzzles and watching classic movies. She also loved the seacoast, spending summers at Salisbury, Hampton and York beaches. Janice enjoyed watching her son Jim’s Bavarian Band perform and listening to the music of Neil Diamond. Mrs. Turmel enjoyed traditional Polish foods.

      Janice was a communicant of St. Kathryn Church in Hudson and held membership in the American Legion Post 48 Auxiliary of Hudson. She was a member of the Hudson Seniors and enjoyed trips to Foxwoods.

     In addition to her parents, Janice was predeceased by a son, Mark R. Turmel in 2003; three sisters, Stacia Marcucci, Anna Vassar and Ann Blanchette; and two brothers, Eugene Cherkes and Julian Cherkes.

     Members of her family include her husband of 57 years “Bob” Turmel, whom she married on April 27, 1957; two sons, Michael P. Turmel and his fiancée Wanda Wheeler of Manchester and James C. Turmel and his fiancée Angela Castle of Hudson; a daughter, Sheryl A. Turmel of Hudson; a granddaughter, Ashley Felch; two grandsons, Jared and Jason Turmel; a sister, Lillian P. Cherkes of Hudson; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin, Ginger Pietuch of Nashua.

     The family wishes to express their sincerest gratitude to the nurses and staff of Home Health & Hospice Care for the compassionate care of Janice.

     SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Kathryn Church, 4 Dracut Road in Hudson, Saturday morning at 10 a.m. Everyone is asked to gather at the church. Interment will be place at St. Stanislaus Cemetery at a later date. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be in her memory to Home Health & Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
