Richard James Leavitt, 76, of Nashua, passed away early Saturday morning, September 14, 2019 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a long illness.
Born in Exeter, NH on June 12, 1943, he was a son of the late Harold and Barbara (Horton) Leavitt. A resident of this city for many years, Richard began his career at the Nashua Foundry and then founded his painting business, Leavitt’s Painting, that he owned for a number of years.
In his leisure time, Richard loved to fish and hunt; snowmobiling; was a NASCAR fan; and loved trips to the ocean. He was loved by his family and was a doting and wonderful grandfather.
Members of his family include his three children, Mark Leavitt, Scott Leavitt and Julie Leavitt; his former wife, Barbara Leavitt; six grandchildren, Anthony, Jonathan, Krista, Joshua, Cassandra and Amber; three great-grandchildren, Emily, Matthew and Kyra; a fourth great-grandchild Liam, is on the way; many nieces and nephews; and his loving dog, Macho. In addition to his parents, Richard was predeceased by a daughter, Laurie Gagnon Doggett; and his brother, Stanley Leavitt, who passed away this summer.
