DOROTHY TRESA CANNATA

January 14, 2020
CANNATA, DOROTHY TRESA

Dorothy Tresa Cannata of Nashua passed away surrounded by loved ones Tuesday evening at Lahey Hospital in Burlington, MA after a sudden illness.

Born in Malden, MA., Dorothy was one of nine children. Her parents were Giorgio Savarino of Muòrica, Sicily, Italy and Lena Maria (Togneri) Savarino of Barga, a Province of Lucca in Tuscany, Italy.

Dorothy resided and was educated in Malden before moving to Nashua in 1964.  A devoted mother, she also maintained an immaculate, loving home. She adored being with her family and reveled in cooking, as well as nourishing anyone that walked through her door with the most delicious Italian cuisine, a contagious smile and a heartfelt hug. In her leisure she enjoyed gardening – notably flowers – exercising and watching the New England Patriots, especially when they would win.  She was an extremely hard-working employee of Millipore Medical Corp in Bedford, MA., where she worked as a Senior Manufacturing Technician until her retirement.  She was a devoted communicant of the Parish of the Resurrection.

Dorothy leaves behind a close-knit clan made up of her three children, Cheryl Ann Cannata, Jodi Craig and her husband, David, and Arjay Cannata and his wife, Elena.  Her five grandchildren are Chad Allan Panneton and his wife, Melanie, Nick Panneton, Alton Craig, Asya Cannata and Aurora Cannata.  Dorothy was also blessed with two great grandchildren, Mackenzie Panneton and Cole Allan Panneton.  Other surviving members of her family include two sisters, Ann Travis and her husband Jack of Nashua and Rita Anderson of Bridge City, TX; she also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as their children. She was predeceased by her parents and six of her eight siblings, Eleanor Fermano, Anthony Bernardini, Beatrice Barrett, Louis Savarino, Jean Bonito, and Vincent Savarino. What the family of eleven lacked in material wealth, they made up for with a tight family bond comprised of a strong work ethic, happiness, affection and love.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad St.,Nashua on Thursday, January 23 at 11:00 am.  There are no calling hours.  Interment will take place at a later time.  Donations in memory of Dorothy may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

You brought a light into every room into which you walked and always gave a warm hug to those who needed it. Your smile is one which can never be forgotten. Thank you for welcoming me with your kind words and open arms each time I was around. You were a mom amongst moms, and a mom to so many. Rest well and in the peace you have so well earned.

My precious auntie Dorothy. The memories you created for me when I spent summers with you and my best little sister Cheryl. You dressed us alike and took us all over. One of my fondest memories was when you tucked us in at night and with a gentle kiss you would say, “angels on your pillow and happy face in the morning”. Such a trooper in Italy as we dragged you all through Rome and up the mountain road to see where nana was baptized. I remember you crying in that church. You are truly precious and I will love you for all eternity. Angels on your pillow.

You will always be my Auntie Dotty. I'll always have the wonderful memories of spending time at your house. You would give Cheryl and me matching up-do hairstyles. You are one of the few people who could out eat me with spaghetti - and you made awesome sauce. I will miss your blueberry muffins. Thanks for the recipe, but they will always be missing the one key ingredient - ❤️ auntie Dotty love.
