Dorothy R. Falkowski, 89, a longtime Nashua resident, widow of John J. Falkowski, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 21, 2020 at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, NH after a period of declining health.
Mrs. Falkowski was born in New Boston on December 30, 1930, a daughter of the late George L. and Ella Mae (Cluchie) Smith. During her youth, Dot resided in New Boston, Milford and Manchester before moving to the house her husband built on Hutchinson Street, Nashua in 1951 and made her home there for 66 years.
As a young woman, Dot worked at Sprague Electric Company doing piece work. After her children were school age, she founded her own business grooming poodles in her home. Dot also worked in the mailroom at Nashua Corporation and as a salesperson at Jordan Marsh.
An avid golfer for many years, she was very proud of her memberships in the Women’s Golf Association of New Hampshire and the United States Golf Association. Dot also enjoyed taking care of her property, mowing the lawn, gardening and feeding birds. She and her circle of friends took many trips including China, Bermuda, Las Vegas, California, Arizona, South Carolina and Florida.
In addition to her parents, Dot was predeceased by her husband John, whom she married on December 5, 1947 and shared 38 years together until his passing on December 21, 1985. Her four siblings and their spouses, Hazel and Wally Knutson, Ruth and Rommie Ascani, George L. Jr. and Dottie Smith, and Irene Smith; and her grandson, Ryan J. Falkowski.
Members of her family include her two children, Stephen A. Falkowski and his wife, Judi (Chartier) Falkowski of Merrimack, and Susan “Sue” Miller and her husband David Miller of Perkinsville, VT; her grandchildren, Colyn Belter and her husband Mark of Merrimack and Erinn Falkowski of Milford; great-grandchildren, Aby and Jackson of Merrimack; also many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her poodles, “Rowdy”, “Sugar Babe” and “Mitzie”.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday, January 27th from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed a service in the funeral home at one o’clock. Interment will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend.
