John Amos Ogden, 98, of Garden City, NY and recently of Nashua, NH, passed away at Nashua Crossings, Friday evening, January 24, 2020 after a period of declining health.
Born in Nyack, New York, on November 2, 1921, he was a son of the late Amos and Sarah Majella (Brechbiel) Ogden. Educated in New York, John earned his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY (State University of New York) at New Paltz and his Master’s degree from New York University.
A longtime educator, Mr. Ogden was employed with the Valley Stream public elementary schools in Valley Stream, NY for a number of years.
In his leisure time, John enjoyed sailing and was a fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team.
John married Justine E. Burns in 1947 and shared 71 years together until her passing in 2018. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Arthur and Fred; and a sister, Loretta.
Members of his family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mei Ogden of Virginia and David and Patty Ogden of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, James Ogden, Karen Araujo, Steven Ogden and Michael Ogden; and three great-grandchildren, Lydia Araujo, David Araujo and Katherine Ogden.
