Roland Ernest Robert, 96, a lifelong Nashua resident, passed away Wednesday evening, February 12, 2020 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a brief illness.
Born in Nashua on January 30, 1924, he was a son of the late Joseph and Adele (Bonenfant) Robert. Educated in local schools, Roland was a Navy veteran of World War II serving as a Seaman First Class in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. After the war, Roland came home to Nashua and worked for a time in the shoe industry and then at Nashua Corporation as a coating operator for many years. He will be remembered as a loving husband and father, who enjoyed fishing and clam digging in his leisure time.
Roland married Claire C. Jean on June 25, 1949 and shared 70 years together until her passing on December 9, 2019. He was also predeceased by a son, Donald A. Robert in 2015; four brothers, Gerard, Wilbur, Roger and Lionel Robert; and a sister, Annette Simard.
Members of his family include a son, Glenn E. Robert of Henniker; daughter-in-law, Diane Robert of New Port Richey, FL; granddaughter, Abigail Corson of Florida; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Parish of The Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, Wednesday, February 19th at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery.
