Ruth Janet Tiernan Moreau passed away on February 3, 2021 in Ocala, Florida, with her loving family nearby.
Ruth was born the third child and eldest daughter of Charles and Yvonne Tiernan in Nashua, New Hampshire on January 10, 1934. She was a faithful, generous, and loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and great grandmother.
While she was still in high school, she was proud of her job at the Indian Head Bank. The family’s dog used to follow her through the revolving doors. Fortunately, the bank manager liked the dog. She was the best student in the first driver’s education class ever taught in the state of New Hampshire. Her brothers used to wake her up to back the car out of the barn so they could go to work in the morning.
When she was nineteen, she sailed across the Atlantic Ocean to Germany to marry U.S. Army Corporal Joseph Roland Moreau on June 20, 1953. Together they raised a remarkable family.
When their daughter Theresa was born with disabilities, Ruth became Theresa’s lifelong care giver. Ruth also carried the memory of their daughter Dorothy, who died of a brain tumor at the age of six years old.
Yet she taught her family to be joyful. We were always playing games or going swimming. Ruth loved to sing. She sang with her children, and her sisters, and the church choir. In recent years, when her dementia caused her to be sometimes sad or angry – all you had to do was start, “Doe a deer, a female deer, ray a drop of golden sun…” and Ruth would join in happily.
Ruth grew up in Nashua, NH. She had an excellent education with the Catholic nuns at St. Patrick’s School. She was a faithful celebrant at St. Patrick’s Church in her youth. In her later years, she enjoyed attending St. Jude’s in Marion Oaks, FL – until COVID-19.
Ruth was proud of the work she did for twenty years as a bookkeeper for the Teamsters Pension Fund in Utica, NY. She was a great support to her husband who ran a very successful dairy equipment business.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 67 years, her children Roland, Patricia, David, Theresa, Janet and Cathy, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, her sisters Clara, Irene and Kathy and Jean her cousin. She was predeceased by her father, Charles, and mother, Yvonne, who she will see in heaven – and her brothers Martin and Leo and a sister, Nancy, who died as an infant.
