Hannah Marie Brown passed away on July 3, 2021 after a period of declining health. She was born June 26, 1932 in East Orange, New Jersey to Irish immigrant parents, the late Thomas and May (Scott) Kelly. She attended St. Vincent’s Academy and Seton Hall University. She began her career in the finance department of General Motors.
She was the widow of Donald E. Brown. She met Don at the Jersey shore and they married April 28, 1962. They made their home in Maplewood, New Jersey until Don’s job took them to Mexico City, Mexico and Nashua, New Hampshire where they lived for over 45 years. Family was Marie’s priority. She was very active with her children’s activities and schools. She planned annual vacations with extended family that provided wonderful memories and were cherished by all. Every Christmas was made special for her grandchildren as they were treated to Christmas fun at Nanny’s Workshop.
Once her children were older, Marie returned to school in her forties and received her LPN from Saint Joseph School of Nursing. She worked many years for Dr. Richard Dai’s office and then as the school nurse for Mount Pleasant School. Marie also received her realtor’s license and worked in real estate. In her retirement, she became a docent for the New Hampshire Historical Society in Concord, New Hampshire and doted on her children and grandkids.
She was a devout Catholic and for many years was a Eucharistic Minister and active parishioner at Saint Christopher’s church.
Marie loved the ocean and she and Don enjoyed their summer home in South Chatham with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Monomoy Yacht Club in Chatham, Massachusetts.
Marie was the devoted and loved mother of Maureen Galaid of Millis, MA; Anne Flynn and her husband Paul of Bedford, MA; Thomas Brown and his wife, Vanessa of Carlisle, MA; and Michael Brown and his wife Jocelyn of Raleigh, NC. She is survived by five grandchildren: Madeline, Meredith, Brendan, Michael and Ryan. She leaves behind one brother, Thomas Kelly (Della) of Buffalo Grove, Il and one sister, Florence Kelly of Wayland, MA. She also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
