Jane (Alexander) Solomon Bangert, 86, of Amherst, NH and formerly of Nashua for many years, passed away Friday afternoon, April 8, 2022 after a brief illness. Jane was the widow of Robert M. Solomon and Dale P. Bangert.
A native of Chicago, Illinois, Jane was born on April 24, 1935, a daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille (Frank) Alexander. She grew up on the Southside of Chicago and graduated from Kirsch High School Class of 1952. She furthered her education at the University of Illinois, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in marketing in 1956 and later graduated from Northeastern University in Boston, earning her M.B.A.
Jane’s professional career spanned four decades, beginning at General Electric Co. in Fort Wayne, Indiana as a market research statistician, and ending in Nashua, New Hampshire where she was the Director of Personnel and Special Services for the Nashua public schools until her retirement in 1995. Along the way, she taught kindergarten at the White Wing School from 1966-1968 and was an Associate Professor and Director of Extended Education at New England Aeronautical Institute from 1968-1975. From 1970-1975, Jane also worked part time as education director for radio station WSMN and covered the 1972 Democratic National Convention in Miami, Florida.
Always active in her community, Jane has served as vice chairperson of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act Title III State Advisory Board, the advisory board of the New Hampshire Voucher Project, was active with the New Hampshire Council for Better Schools, and served on the Board of Directors of several organizations. After retirement, she served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate, giving the state’s abused children a voice in court.
Politics was one of Jane’s passions. In addition to running several political campaigns, Jane was the Hillsborough County Democratic Committee chairman and co-chair of the 1972 Democratic State Convention. She was elected to serve as a representative to the New Hampshire General Court, 1975-1976.
Among her honors is membership in the Phi Kappa Phi honor society. In 1970, she was chosen one of the Outstanding Young Women of America and an Outstanding Educator in America (awarded to her again in 1973.) Jane received the Nashua Junior Women’s Club Award in 1972. She was also named Woman of Achievement for 1975 by the Nashua Business and Professional Women’s Club.
Members of her family include her son and daughter-in-law, Dean R. and Frances Solomon of Boyne City, MI; her daughter, Lori L. Solomon of Amherst, NH; two step-children, David P. Bangert and his wife Monica of Ouray, CO and Susan E. Murphy and her husband Henry of Old Saybrook, CT; her grandchildren, Keith, Paul and Jill Solomon, McKenna Huynh, Stephanie Gagne, Cara Marcionek, Ryan, Michael and Mary Kate Murphy; eighteen great-grandchildren; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husbands and parents, Jane was predeceased by her sisters, Esther Lamb and Barbara Naiditch; and her step-daughter, Holly A. Bangert.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday, April 12th from 4 to 6 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the Shaw Chapel of The First Church, One Concord Street, Nashua, Wednesday at Noon.
