Catherine F. Fitzgerald, 88, of Manchester and formerly of Nashua, passed away early Wednesday morning, September 14, 2022 at Mount Carmel Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, after a period of declining health.
Born in New York City on April 14, 1934, she was a daughter of the late John and Catherine (Moroney) Dunlea. Catherine grew up in The Bronx and attended Saint Jerome’s Parochial School and was a graduate of Cathedral High School Class of 1952. After moving to Nashua in 1972, she continued her education at Rivier University, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.
In addition to raising her children, Catherine also worked at the Nashua City Hall, Digital Equipment Corporation in Merrimack, and later as a cashier at Walmart in Hudson.
A devout Catholic, Catherine was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church; was a member of the prayer group at Rivier University, and took classes at RISE.
Members of her family include six children and their spouses, Patricia and Mark Dwyer of Merrimack, NH, Brendon and Anthonicia Fitzgerald of Beverly Hills, CA, Damien Fitzgerald of Hanover, MD, Adrian and Michelle Fitzgerald of Cary, NC, Edmon Fitzgerald of Hudson, NH and the late Christian Fitzgerald and his wife of Melissa of Chesterfield, VA; nineteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; also nieces, nephews and cousins. Catherine was also predeceased by her sister, Mary Duff; her brother, Denis Dunlea; her long-lost sister Ann Sheehan of Ireland; and her former husband, Patrick Fitzgerald.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Sunday, September 18th from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 216 East Dunstable Road, Nashua, Monday morning at 10 o’clock. The Mass will be livestreamed on the church’s website at www.iccnashuanh.org. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. Friends are invited to gather at the church.
