Joseph S. Kaye, Jr., 84, of Nashua, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 30, 2023, after a period of declining health.
Born in Worcester, Massachusetts on July 16, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Mary H. (Chaplis) Kaye. Educated in Worcester schools, Joe was a graduate of North High School Class of 1956 and furthered his education at Worcester Polytech, where he earned a BSEE, Distinguished Military Graduate in 1960. Mr. Kaye earned his MSEE in 1963 and his MBA in 1973 both from Northeastern University.
An Army veteran, Mr. Kaye served from 1963-66 as Captain of the US Army Signal Corp, 24th Signal Battalion, Augsburg, Germany. He served as Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Battalion Adjutant. In 1966-67, he studied the career officer’s signal course in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey. From 1967-68, Mr. Kaye was a Signal Officer with the Regional Communications Group in Vietnam and received a Bronze Star medal.
After completing his military career, Joe was employed as a microwave engineer with Sanders Associates; was a manufacturing supervisor and purchasing agent at Teradyne, Inc. He also was a purchasing agent for various Hi-Tech Companies, including purchasing manager for start-up company, Banyan Systems.
In his leisure time, Joe enjoyed photography, coin and stamp collecting, camping and back packing, fishing, model railroading, home projects and Broadway shows in Boston. He also enjoyed traveling, three trips to Europe and two cross country motor trips. Several motor trips to the mid-west and southern states. Highlights include: Branson, MO, Savannah, GA, Key West, FL, New Orleans, LA and Orlando, FL. His favorite destination was Disney World and his favorite Disney Character was Donald Duck.
Members of his family include his wife, Joan A. (Catania) Kaye; two sons, Stephen J. Kaye and his wife Kathy of New Market, AL and Michael J. Kaye of Weare, NH; three step-children, Glen Gibbons and his wife Robin of Barrington, RI, Gwen Guilford and her husband Jack of Germantown, MD and Gean Unsworth and her husband Michael of Milford, NH; eight grandchildren, Thomas Kaye, Savannah Kaye, Julia Kaye, Patricia Huntley, Sierra Droogsma, Finn Unsworth, Izzy Unsworth and Ainsley Gibbons; three great-grandchildren, Ashton Huntley, Azalia Huntley and Mia Droogsma; and his sister, Janice Harvey and her husband Arthur of Centerville, MA.
A Graveside service and Army Honors will take place at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Bocawen, Thursday morning, May 4th at 10 o’clock.
