Lucille H. Boucher, 92, well known Hudson resident and widow of Roland P. Boucher, passed away at her home, Friday evening, August 2, 2024 after a period of declining health.
One of seven children, Lucille was born on May 4, 1932 to the late George W. and Marion A. (Knights) Stevens. She attended local schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1950. As a teenager, Lucille worked at Benson’s Wild Animal Farm. She was also employed at Moore’s Market (Thompsons Market) in Hudson and W.T. Grants at Simoneau Plaza in Nashua.
In addition to raising her family, she worked as a dispatcher then Office Assistant for Servomation Corp. in Nashua for over twenty years. Once retired she worked for the Hudson School System lunch program.
Lucille essentially began her volunteering career at 18, at the Wattannick Grange #327 in short order becoming the Master of the Grange; her passion for getting involved in her community and helping others was front and center in her life, outside of her family. Other passions of Lucille’s were gardening, camping, traveling and activities to benefit the senior community and the right to vote. She spent many years as a poll worker.
Upon retiring Lucille and her husband joined the Hudson Seniors, before long she became President. A longtime President and member of the Hudson Seniors Club, Lucille was actively involved in many different types of fund raisers with the intention of having a Senior Center built in Hudson. Serving as President of the Hudson Seniors Club, Lucille interacted with local businesses, Town of Hudson, Board of Selectman and became a member of the State’s Elderly Advisory Council in Concord NH.
One of many activities Lucille fostered and was great at was planning and running trips for the Hudson Seniors from 1995 through 2019; whether day trips or overnight she would make the arrangements; some were her creative ideas others were suggested. She absolutely loved traveling, before her husband passed, they took many trips together and with groups; From Branson, MO, Las Vegas, Grand Canyon, Washington DC, Amish Country, PA, Cape May, cruises to St. Thomas to Foxwoods, Indian Head Resort and many others.
Lucille had received many accolades over the years including in 1996 Lucille was co-chairman of the committee behind Hudson’s huge 250th Anniversary bash. Lucille received a certificate of appreciation from the Kiwanis Club of Hudson for helping at Old Home Days and was the recipient of the Hudson Grange #1 Community Citizen of the Year Award in 1996. She also received a certificate of appreciation and Proclamation from the Board of Selectman, Town of Hudson for distinguished service to the people of the Town of Hudson.
Lucille and other seniors established the Hudson Senior Council on Aging with a 15-member board, serving as president. In 2005, she was a nominee for the Book of Golden Deeds Award by the Breakfast Exchange Club of Nashua. She was also honored by The Nashua Telegraph’s “That’s Life” on July 6, 1997 about her many years of involvement with the Town of Hudson.
Lucille and her husband Roland were married on November 13, 1954 and shared 45 years together until his passing on December 19, 1999. She was also predeceased by her son, Bruce A. Boucher on April 19, 2023; and her six siblings, William Stevens, George “Lester” Stevens, Millie Plynkofsky, Leona Gamble, Clarence “Buster” Jameson, and Evelyn Poulin.
Lucille was a kind and giving person, who especially loved spending time with her family, grandson and great-grandsons.
Members of her family include her daughter, Deborah A. Demarais; her grandson, Keith A. Desmarais and his wife Stephanie; great-grandsons, Hudson and Barrett Desmarais; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday, August 13th from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Wednesday, August 14th at 10 a.m. followed by interment at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson.
