Albert Edward McCann, 91, a longtime Merrimack resident and formerly of Nashua, passed away Friday afternoon, March 3, 2017 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center after a brief illness.
Born in Nashua on January 25, 1926, he was a son of the late George and Zelinda (Gagnon) McCann. Following his education in the Nashua School System, “Al” served with the Navy during World War II as a Gunner’s Mate Third Class from February 1943 to February 1946. He was an active member of the Armed Guard and enjoyed attending reunions until his death.
After the war, Al was employed as an Environmental Technician with Raytheon in Lowell, Massachusetts for 37 years.
In his leisure time, Al was a member of Lake Waukewan Campground for over 40 years and loved several family gatherings during the summers. Al enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife Alice; was an avid Snowmobiler and enjoyed venturing to various Casino’s.
Members of his family include his wife, Alice H. (LeBlanc) McCann of Merrimack, with whom he shared the past 71 years together; three sons and daughters-in-law, Arthur and Susan McCann of Hudson, Edward and Sandra McCann and Michael and Pam McCann all of Merrimack; three grandchildren, Arthur T. McCann II and Tara Casey of Nashua, Amanda McCann of Nashua and Shannon Gagnon and her husband Matthew of Manchester; step-grandchildren, Lisa and Timothy Klein of Nashua and Kate and Sean Lindsay of Newton, MA; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Margaret McCann of Nashua; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Armand LeBlanc and Robert and Rita LeBlanc all of Merrimack and Raymond and Suzanne LeBlanc of Grafton, NH; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, Al was predeceased by his brothers, Thomas McCann and Raymond McCann; and his sister-in-law, Ilse LeBlanc.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Tuesday, March 7th from 4 to 7 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson.
