Alice Louise (Tong) Johnson, 97, of Bedford and formerly of Nashua, passed away Friday evening, February 1, 2019 at the Bedford Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. She was the widow of Carl Andrew Johnson.
A native of this city, Mrs. Johnson was born on April 13, 1921, a daughter of the late Percy and May (Wood) Tong. She was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1938 and furthered her education at the former Nashua Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1942.
Alice began her career as an Industrial Nurse with Pratt & Whitney in Hartford, Connecticut and at Nashua Memorial Hospital for a time. She later was a Night Supervisor at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua for 25 years and also was a volunteer there for ten years.
She was a communicant of The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, was a member of the Rivier Community Prayer Group, and alumnus of Nashua Memorial Hospital School of Nursing.
Alice and her husband Carl were married on May 5, 1943 and shared nearly 64 years together until his passing on April 17, 2007.
Members of her family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Carl and Yvonne Johnson of South Portland, ME and David and Eve Johnson of Mont Vernon, NH; three grandchildren, Carl Andrew Johnson II and his wife Monique of San Francisco, CA, Samantha Elizabeth Johnson and Alexandra Louise Johnson of South Portland, ME; two great-grandchildren, Halen Johnson and Logan Johnson; also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Alice was predeceased by her brothers, Roland, Harry and Arthur Tong; and her sister-in-law, Madeline Johnson of Wilmington, DE.
There will be no formal services. Alice will be laid to rest at North Cemetery in Milford in the Spring. Donations may be made in her memory to the Community Hospice House, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054.
