Alice L. Nolan, 89, of Nashua and more recently of Hudson, passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2020 at Laurel Place, after a period of declining health. Alice was the widow of John E. Nolan, Jr.
A Nashua native, Mrs. Nolan was born on December 13, 1930, a daughter of the late Rudy and Josephine (Lippi) Barsanti, and her step-mother, Lucia Barsanti, who raised Alice and her sister, after their own mother passed. A graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1948, Alice furthered her education at Rivier College now Rivier University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business in 1952.
After raising her two children, Alice worked as a para-professional for the Nashua School District for 17 years. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice was a fabulous cook and she learned all the old Italian recipes from her much loved stepmother Lucia after her own mother passed. She enjoyed traveling with her husband as well as many of their dear friends and loved her weekly bridge games. A hobby she developed late in life was to walk three miles a day which she did into her early 80’s. Another hobby she indulged in was reading and she was a life-long learner. Alice donated many hours crocheting prayer shawls and was a devout Catholic, as a communicant of the Parish of the Resurrection. She was a quiet and humble woman who was loved by all who met her.
Alice and John were married on May 14, 1955 and shared 61 years together until his passing on August 8, 2016.
Members of her family include her children and their spouses, John E. III and Kim Nolan of Amherst, Kathleen and Dana Sidilau of Hudson and the late Thomas Gregory Nolan who died in infancy; three grandchildren, Gregory Nolan of Nashua, Kelly Janco and her husband Stephen of Windham and Matthew Sidilau and his fiancée Liz Davila of West Chester, PA; four great-grandchildren, Ryan, Kate and Noah Janco, and Mia Nolan; two sisters and a brother, Doris Dichaira and Doris Powers; and the late Joseph Simonetti; two nephews, James and Michael Dichaira; four nieces, Ann-Marie McManus, Nancy Plourde, Susan Richard and Brenda Ball.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the entire staff at Laurel Place Assisted Living facility in Hudson, with special thanks to the loving and compassionate care and support given to our mother since receiving her cancer diagnosis two years ago. The nurses, nursing assistants and entire staff treated her as lovingly as they would their own mothers. We cannot express in words how blessed we have felt with her care. We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to the nurses from Home Health & Hospice Care who worked collaboratively with Laurel Place to allow Mom to pass in the comfort of her own home at Laurel Place.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Parish of the Resurrection followed by interment at St. Patrick Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in memory of Alice to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 166 South River Road, Bedford, NH 03110.
