Anne M. (Haug) Howorth, 92, a lifelong Nashua resident, widow of The Honorable H. Philip Howorth, passed away peacefully at her home, Tuesday morning, November 14, 2023.
Born in Nashua on December 28, 1930, she was a daughter of the late Anton J. and Charlotte M. (MacDuffie) Haug. A graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1947, Anne furthered her education at the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1951 and earned her Juris Doctor in 1960 from Boston College Law School. She was the thirty-second woman to sit for and pass the New Hampshire Bar. Early in her career, she was employed at Sanders Associates in Nashua, before moving to Massachusetts when she was first married.
Anne loved skiing and in the 1950s explored Cannon, Wildcat, Stowe, and many other mountains in New England. When her children were young, she brought them to Indian Head Ski Area in Pepperell, Massachusetts, where they too learned to ski. She traveled extensively in Europe with her father, accompanying him on many business trips, sometimes crossing the Atlantic by ship. Later, she traveled with her husband, visiting Bermuda, Mexico, the Bahamas and Europe on many occasions. The Howorth’s enjoyed visiting Italy, where they explored Sicily and even made the journey to Mount Etna.
She held membership in the New Hampshire Bar Association and was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick Church.
In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her husband Phil, whom she married on August 25, 1962 and with whom she shared over 58 years together. One of seven children, Anne was predeceased by a brother, Charles “Chuck” Haug; and three sisters, Marie “Weezy” Doyle, Carol Miller and Elizabeth “Bette” French.
Members of her family include three children, Claire Kieley and her husband Kevin, Joanna Howorth and Paul C. Howorth; four grandchildren, Andrez Howorth, Sarah Howorth, Kathryn Kieley and Charlotte Kieley; a brother, John Haug and his wife Beverly of Springs, CA; a sister, Connie Wilson of Sarasota, FL; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Thursday, November 16th from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Patrick Church, 29 Spring Street, Nashua, Friday morning, November 17th at 9 o’clock. Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson. Family and friends are invited to attend.
