Sandra J. Skladany

SKLADANY, SJ

Sandra Jane Skladany, age 77, passed away peacefully at Fairview Senior Living in Hudson, NH, on March 7, 2025. She had been a resident of the long-term care facility since September 2023, where she earned the nickname “The Mayor” for her warm smile and outgoing personality—she knew all the staff members’ and residents’ names, and was the first to welcome newcomers when they moved in.

Sandra is predeceased by her father William Swartz, mother Jane (Fritchman) Swartz, fiancé Albert Budro, and brother-in-law Anthony Salerno.

She is survived by her daughter Elizabeth of Boston, MA; sisters Deborah Queeney of Little Elm, TX, and Diane Salerno of Roswell, GA; and brother Daniel Swartz and his wife Carolyn of Westfield, NJ. She also leaves behind seven nieces and one nephew and their families, whom she adored and relished spoiling with elaborate gift packages for holidays and their birthdays.

Sandra was born in Bethlehem, PA, on August 5, 1947. She grew up in Iselin and Gillette, NJ, graduating from Watchung Hills Regional High School in Warren, NJ, in 1965. She went on to become a highly skilled secretary who could type upward of 100 words per minute. Later in life, she began a new career as a home health aide, a job she was made for. She loved her clients and took great joy in caring for them.

Outside of work, Sandra was an avid reader and movie-goer. She also delighted in family vacations at the New Jersey Shore and New Hampshire Seacoast. She had elegant taste and decorated her dwellings over the years with cherished antiques, prized works of art (many featuring giraffes, her favorite animal), and a sparkling blown glass collection. She was a devoted Christian with a deep faith, worshipping over the years at Community Chapel Church of the Nazarene and Christian Bible Church in Nashua, NH. She was particularly active in organizing activities and outings for senior parishioners, with the Butterfly Place in Westford, MA, being a favorite destination.

Sandra’s family wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff at Fairview Senior Living and Home Health & Hospice Care of Southern NH. They are exceptionally skilled, tender, and attentive caregivers who made her final months joyful and serene, and she appreciated them so much. They also provided—and continue to provide—incredible support to her family as they process their loss.

Her family will be holding a small private memorial later this year. In lieu of a public celebration of life, we ask that you honor her memory by donating your time or other resources to a charitable cause close to your heart. In addition to faithful tithing, Sandra was extremely generous through other channels, most notably Compassion International, where she sponsored a child named Grace for over 15 years. Nothing would make Sandra happier than knowing her spirit of giving lives on with her loved ones.

Richard A. da Silva

da Silva Richard, Carlee and Louie

Richard Alves da Silva, 76, of Nashua, passed away at his home, surrounded by his wife, family and friends, Friday evening, March 28, 2025.

The youngest of five children, he was born in Brockton, Massachusetts on February 16, 1949, a son of the late Alexander Alves da Silva and Rose Pereira (Silva) da Silva. Richard grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School in 1967. An Army veteran, Richard proudly served his country from 1969 to 1972 when Uncle Sam came calling. Following his military service, he furthered his education at Massasoit College, earning his Associates Degree in Science in 1974 and went on to earn a BS/BA at Suffolk University.

Richard spent over 30 years working for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), first at the Jamaica Plain VA and then the Bedford VA in Fiscal Service. He worked his way up from Accountant to Chief of the Department. Later in his career, he moved within the DVA to what was then known as Decision Support Systems (DSS), housed at the Bedford, Massachusetts VA.

After leaving the Army, Richard took up long distance running and held many race records in local communities for a number of years. He qualified for the Boston Marathon when the qualifying times for his age group had been tightened up to 2 hours and 50 minutes. Sadly, due to an injury, he was unable to run the race. During COVID, Richard taught himself to play guitar and proudly played for his wife, greyhounds and guitar friends. Richard loved to send videos of new songs that he had learned to play to his family and friends. He always shared them with his guitar group first. Ultimately his favorite pastime was playing with and walking his greyhounds, Bryndel, Carlee (aka his Cawlee-Flower), Louie and Franco.

Richard traveled to many places throughout the world, but his favorite places were those that he traveled with his greyhounds, like Greystock (GA); Greyhounds Reach the Beach (DE); Grapehounds (NY); Greyhounds in Gettysburg (PA); Burlington, VT and so many other places.

He was a proud member of the Lauren Bateman’s Fellowship of the Strings Community.

Members of his family include his loving wife, Patricia S. Klee (Nashua Ward Three Alderwoman); his four siblings, Nancy Lundberg and her late husband Carl, Robert da Silva and his wife Cora, the late Alexander da Silva and the late Rose Marie da Silva; nieces and nephews, Lynn Crapis, David Lundberg, Jeff da Silva, Sarah da Silva, Susan da Silva and Dan da Silva; dear family friend, Lynda Gillin; his beloved Greyhounds, Carlee, Franco, Bryndel (deceased) and Louie (deceased).

Richard’s true passion lived with his beloved greyhounds and all greyhounds. He was extremely generous in his donations to greyhound shelters. His hope in life and in death is that he could save every greyhound and have enough property to house many. He would read stories about the rescues from the shelters listed below and immediately take out a credit card and make a donation or sponsor a foster. It is his wish that any purchase of flowers should be put aside and the monies be donated to the following shelters: Fast Friends Greyhound Adoption, 14 W. Swanzey Rd, Swanzey, NH (603) 355-1556; Greyhound Friends at Saddle Hill Rd, Hopkinton, MA 01748, (508) 435-5969. In addition to his greyhounds, he loved being a member of his guitar group named the Fellowship of the Strings and to be one of the original members of Lauren’s Lifetime Fellowship. Richard will be interred at the New Hampshire Veterans’s Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway (Route 3) in Boscawen, NH, Thursday, June 19th at 11 a.m. Friends are invited to attend.  To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.farwellfuneralservice.com

LUCIER, SHIRLEY

It is with deep sadness that we announce our beloved mother, Shirley Ann Lucier, of Amherst, NH, passed away peacefully at her home of 48 years, Feb. 17, 2025, at the age of 89.

She was born Nov.10, 1935, in Nashua NH to the late Katheryn and Alfred Huard. She attended Amherst St. School and the Sacred Heart School in Nashua NH. Her faith in God was strong.

Shirley was a devoted and loving mother and wife who cherished her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She loved nature and enjoyed fishing and walks on the logging trails in Stoddard with her husband and their 2 dogs, Kiesha and Tammy. Her last pet was her dog Sadie whom she loved and was her constant companion for the last 8 years until her passing in 2024.

Shirley loved long rides and seeing the sights. The mountains and oceans brought her joy and comfort. She looked forward to her Bingo nights with her sister Mary. She loved her jig jaw puzzles, crossword puzzles and card games.

With the gift of having a green thumb, she turned her home outside into a paradise with many species of birds and animals living it up. The inside of her home was truly home. She collected many things like hummels, copper items, dolls, and many other items collected through the years and strategically placed them with love and affection that made you feel, “There’s no place like home.”

Shirley was an awesome cook and baker. Some recipes were passed down and many were her own creations. We are fortunate that she passed these on to us. Besides being an awesome homemaker, she helped run the family business, Lucier’s TV and Appliance.

We will truly miss our mom, her love and compassion, and we will always cherish the wonderful memories she gave us throughout our lives. To us, she was the best Mom in the world.
