Virginia M. Hallisey

HALLISEY, VIRGINIA M.

   Virginia M. Hallisey, a longtime Nashua teacher, passed away Friday afternoon, January 31, 2020 at the Inn at Fairview in Hudson, NH in her 95th year.        

   She was born in Nashua on February 4, 1925, the eldest of four children of the late Helene J. (Desautels) and Harold J. Hallisey.  

   A career educator, Virginia graduated from now Plymouth University and Boston University and she was extensively involved in Alumni Affairs. Retiring at age 70 from the field of education, Virginia had a long and remarkable career in the area of Business Education. She enthusiastically mentored many students and organized and developed numerous ongoing student business organizations as a teacher and administrator in the Nashua School District, SAU 42.

    Upon her retirement, she pursued the legislative and professional interests of teachers throughout New Hampshire. As a result, in 2010, Virginia was awarded the coveted New Hampshire/AARP Andrus Award for Distinguished Service. She belonged to numerous professional organizations in which she served as an officer and board member including the Nashua Area Retired Educators Association and the New Hampshire Retired Educators Association. Virginia was also a founding member and board officer of the now Granite State Credit Union.

    In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Robert J. Hallisey and Donald P. Hallisey.

    Members of her family include a brother, Harold W. “Bill” Hallisey and his wife Marion of Huntsville, Alabama; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

    Her family wishes to thank the fine and attentive staff of the Inn at Fairview and the providers of Compassionate Care for their help, attention and support. Virginia was a proud and happy resident of Fairview.

Waneta S. (Martin) Snyder

SNYDER, WANETA S.

   Waneta S. (Martin) Snyder, 95, of Hudson, widow of Leon James “Jim” Snyder, Jr., passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, January 30, 2020 at Fairview Nursing Home.        

   Mrs. Snyder was born in Nashua on April 4, 1924, a daughter of the late Joseph J. and Gladys M. (Bouley) Martin. Waneta and her siblings were raised in Nashua and attended local schools. She spent her mid to late teenage years serving as a governess for families in New York. After returning to New Hampshire, Waneta married the love of her life, Jim Snyder on August 17, 1946. They raised their family on Melendy Road in Hudson. The Snyder’s shared 53 years together until his passing on October 18, 1999.

    Waneta liked birds, crossword puzzles, and drawing. She would spend hours in the breezeway of her home or outside in her garden. Waneta loved spending time with her family, and especially loved their get-togethers at Greenfield State Park. She would often make trips to Burger King and KFC with her aunt June as well as other family members. She enjoyed going grocery shopping and running errands with “her gal” granddaughter Lexi Lou, who always encouraged her Nana to “just have fun”.

    In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her two daughters, Sandra L. Gilbody and Judith M. Mall; her brothers, Harry and Ronald Martin; her sisters, Dorothy Dube, Elaine Courtemanche, Barbara Patnaude, Vivian Duclos, Donna Poliquin and Mildred M. Knights; and her aunt June Bouley.

   Members of her family include two sons, Leon James Snyder and his wife Nancy, and Keith R. Snyder, both of Hudson; eight grandchildren, Melissa, Daniel, William, Tricia, Troy, Tommy, Darcy and Sarah; twelve great-grandchildren; four sisters, Gloria Scott, Patricia Wrenn and her husband Richard Montbleau, Lee Trippleton, and Doreen Chambers; a brother, Brian Martin; also numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.    

   Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, Wednesday, February 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Thursday, February 6th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Pinewood Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend.

John A. Ogden

  John Amos Ogden, 98, of Garden City, NY and recently of Nashua, NH, passed away at Nashua Crossings, Friday evening, January 24, 2020 after a period of declining health.        

   Born in Nyack, New York, on November 2, 1921, he was a son of the late Amos and Sarah Majella (Brechbiel) Ogden. Educated in New York, John earned his Bachelor’s degree from SUNY (State University of New York) at New Paltz and his Master’s degree from New York University.  

   A longtime educator, Mr. Ogden was employed with the Valley Stream public elementary schools in Valley Stream, NY for a number of years.

    In his leisure time, John enjoyed sailing and was a fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish football team.

    John married Justine E. Burns in 1947 and shared 71 years together until her passing in 2018. He was also predeceased by his brothers, Arthur and Fred; and a sister, Loretta.

    Members of his family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Mei Ogden of Virginia and David and Patty Ogden of Nashua, NH; four grandchildren, James Ogden, Karen Araujo, Steven Ogden and Michael Ogden; and three great-grandchildren, Lydia Araujo, David Araujo and Katherine Ogden.

Dorothy R. Falkowski

  Dorothy R. Falkowski, 89, a longtime Nashua resident, widow of John J. Falkowski, passed away early Tuesday morning, January 21, 2020 at Wheelock Terrace in Hanover, NH after a period of declining health.        

  Mrs. Falkowski was born in New Boston on December 30, 1930, a daughter of the late George L. and Ella Mae (Cluchie) Smith. During her youth, Dot resided in New Boston, Milford and Manchester before moving to the house her husband built on Hutchinson Street, Nashua in 1951 and made her home there for 66 years.  

   As a young woman, Dot worked at Sprague Electric Company doing piece work. After her children were school age, she founded her own business grooming poodles in her home. Dot also worked in the mailroom at Nashua Corporation and as a salesperson at Jordan Marsh.

   An avid golfer for many years, she was very proud of her memberships in the Women’s Golf Association of New Hampshire and the United States Golf Association. Dot also enjoyed taking care of her property, mowing the lawn, gardening and feeding birds. She and her circle of friends took many trips including China, Bermuda, Las Vegas, California, Arizona, South Carolina and Florida.

    In addition to her parents, Dot was predeceased by her husband John, whom she married on December 5, 1947 and shared 38 years together until his passing on December 21, 1985. Her four siblings and their spouses, Hazel and Wally Knutson, Ruth and Rommie Ascani, George L. Jr. and Dottie Smith, and Irene Smith; and her grandson, Ryan J. Falkowski.

    Members of her family include her two children, Stephen A. Falkowski and his wife, Judi (Chartier) Falkowski of Merrimack, and Susan “Sue” Miller and her husband David Miller of Perkinsville, VT; her grandchildren, Colyn Belter and her husband Mark of Merrimack and Erinn Falkowski of Milford;  great-grandchildren, Aby and Jackson of Merrimack; also many nieces, nephews and cousins; and her poodles, “Rowdy”, “Sugar Babe” and “Mitzie”.

Thomas Powers West

West, Thomas P.

Thomas Powers West, 61, of Nashua, passed away at his home, Monday, January 20, 2020 after a period of declining health.

A Nashua native, Tom was born on December 19, 1958, a son of the late Nashua industrialist Richard E. West and wife Ruth M. (Roeblad) West. He attended Nashua schools and graduated from The Derryfield School in Manchester, Class of 1976. Tom furthered his education at New England College in Henniker, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and studied under noted novelist and friend, Russell Banks.  As a fiction writer, his work (though unpublished) was praised by Banks. In recent years he was offered a chance to publish a short story in the New Yorker but could not accept due to his failing health.

Tom was a lifelong journalist who worked for newspapers including The Derry News, Nashua Telegraph, Manchester Union Leader and the Berlin News. He covered many meetings of the Board of Alderman, Planning and Zoning Boards and the New Hampshire Presidential primaries during the 1980s and 90s. He was photographed with presidents such as Carter, Reagan, both Bushes and Clinton and interviewed all of the major candidates at that time.

In his leisure time, Tom was a sports fan of the Boston Red Sox and loved the music of the Grateful Dead. He was a lifelong dog lover, caring for family pets, Snoopy and Fred, as well as his own rescue dog, Newt. He also loved fishing and the beaches of Cape Cod and Daytona, FL.

Members of his family include two brothers, David R. West of Nashua and Steven J. West and his wife, Colleen of Hull, MA; two sisters, Diane R. West and her husband Robert Bates of Bedford, NH and Meredith West and her husband Andrew King of Bloomington, IN; a niece, Elanor West of Baltimore, MD; two nephews, Benjamin King of Poughkeepsie, NY and Matthew King of Bloomington, IN. Tom was also predeceased by his brother, Richard E. West, Jr., who passed away in 1949.

  Anne Therese Caron, 84, of Merrimack and formerly of Nashua, passed away at her home, Sunday morning, January 12, 2020, after a period of declining health. She was the widow of Ronald E. Caron.        

   Mrs. Caron was born in Nashua on September 29, 1935, the youngest of four children of the late John A. and Mary M. (Nangle) Piercy. Educated in local schools, Anne was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1953. She had been employed as the office manager at Subaru of Milford for twenty years until her retirement.  

   Anne was a member and volunteer at the Nashua Senior Activity Center, and enjoyed traveling and playing bingo.

    In addition to her parents, Anne was predeceased by her husband Ronald, whom she married on October 18, 1958 at St. Patrick Church in Nashua. The couple shared 21 years together until his passing in 1979.  She was also predeceased by her son, Raymond R. Caron; her brother, John W. Piercy; her sisters, Madelyn F. McCann and Rita M. Piercy.    

    Members of her family include a daughter, Monique M. Caron and her spouse, Cindie Pals of Merrimack; and of course, her beloved grand-dogs Rubie and Gertie; and Seamus the cat; also many nieces and a nephew. 

   The FARWELL FUNERAL SERVICE in Nashua is in charge of arrangements. Deborah Ann Robichaud

  Deborah Ann (Dolan) Robichaud, 58, of Amherst, NH, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, was rescued by God from this world on January 4th, surrounded by her adoring family.        

   “Debie” was born in Roslindale, Massachusetts on July 25, 1961, the fourth of eight children of her proud parents, Nathalie and Gerald Dolan of Marlborough, MA. The family moved to Marlborough in 1976 where she graduated from Marlborough High School Class of 1979.

   In 1982, Debie married her true love, Scott Robichaud while living in Colorado. The couple moved back to New England in 1983 finally settling in Amherst, NH in 1990.

   In addition to her parents Gerald and Nathalie Dolan; she is survived by her devoted husband of 37 years, Scott Robichaud of Amherst, NH; two daughters, Rachelle Robichaud DiGeronimo and her husband Nick of Milford, NH, and Andrea Robichaud of Merrimack, NH; three sisters, Andrea Souza of Naples, FL, Christine Carey of Overland Park, KS, and Pam Swann and her husband Lewie of Trussville, AL; four brothers, Gerald Dolan Jr. and his wife Joan of Milton, FL, Fred Dolan and his wife Marybeth of Franklin, MA, Ken Dolan of Hudson, NH and Ed Dolan and his wife Jennifer of Blackstone, MA; and her good friend, George Flanders. She is also survived by scores of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends to whom she was endeared.

Walter R. O’Loan

  Walter Robert O’Loan, 93, a longtime Nashua resident, passed away at his home, Friday morning, December 27, 2019 after a period of declining health.        

  A native of Brooklyn, New York, he was born on December 29, 1925, a son of the late Robert E. and Mae (Corrigan) O’Loan. Educated in Brooklyn, Walter graduated from Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School in 1943 and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from St. John’s University in 1951. He did advanced study at St. John’s, Tufts, Northeastern University, the Dale Carnegie Course and American Management Academy. During World War II, Mr. O’Loan served with the Army Signal Corps from 1944 to 1946. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Tech/4.  

   Walter began his career in New York as a Lab Technician, Chemist and Crystallographer for well-known companies of Ramsay-Young Labs, Beech-Nut Packaging, H.M. Rubin and Radio Receptor. He moved to Massachusetts in 1955 to be a Technical Foreman and Manufacturing Superintendent for the Sylvania Factory in Hillsboro, NH. Destiny intervened when Walter befriended his co-worker Blanche Thibault, who saw what a catch he was and set him up with her baby sister Ruth, who became his future wife. In 1963, Walter and his growing family moved to Nashua where he worked at ADL and Sanders Associates Flexprint Division, becoming involved with the early usage of semiconductors. In 1979, he moved on to Centronics in Hudson testing integrated circuits. Walter was always at the head of cutting-edge technology, so when Sanders bought CalComp (California Computer Corp.) and opened a Display Products Division in Hudson in 1982, he joined them in the Reliability Group for burning-in and programming devices. We can all thank him for his part in helping create the computers we use today. He retired from CalComp in 1991 as an Electronics Components Engineer.

   Mr. O’Loan was a member and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #5472; served as the First Board President of the French Hill Neighborhood Housing Services; Past Board member of the Nashua Pastoral Care Center; Past member of Nashua Interfaith Council; Veterans of Foreign Wars (LIC Post 2348), American Chemical Society; Institute of Radio Engineers; and MENSA. Walter was a devout Catholic and communicant of St. Christopher Parish for 35 years, St. Patrick Parish for 10 years and the Parish of the Resurrection since 2009.

    On September 29, 1956, Walter married Ruth R. Desrosiers in Methuen, MA. The couple shared 45 years together, celebrating their devotion to God and each other, until her passing on March 17, 2002.

     Walter is survived by a vast community who will dearly miss hearing his stories and singing along with his traditional Irish songs. Members of his immediate family include a brother, Raymond E. O’Loan and his wife Joyce of Alameda, CA and sister-in-law, Sister Consolata of Jesus, ODC; Walter was predeceased by a brother, Robert O’Loan in 1928. His children include Nina (Joseph) Daniels of Pelham; Noreen (Bob) Loso of St. Joseph, MN, Suzanne O’Loan of Hollis, Brian O’Loan and Rory O’Loan both of Nashua; Marianne O’Loan, with whom he made his home in Nashua; the late Sean O’Loan who passed away in 1984, and Paula Gaylord of Albany, NY. Walter was proud of all his grandchildren: Peter (Virginia) Loso; Timothy (Sharon) Rocha;  Christopher O’Loan; Melanie (Jay Bimshas) Rocha; Nick Loso; Megan (Chris) Bakas, Amy Lefebvre; Casey (Chase) Smith; Bacle (Jade) Fowler; Shana Taylor; Nate Loso; Ryan O’Loan; Sean O’Loan, Eric O’Loan; American Gaylord; Cameron O’Loan; Hope O’Loan; and Ultan Gaylord; 6 great-grandchildren, Alexander Bakas, Sydney, Bacle and Marley Fowler, Evan Rocha and Lincoln Rocha; also many nieces, nephews and extended family whom he loved dearly.

Frances Santerre

   Frances (Belleau) Santerre, 85, of Nashua, widow of Arthur E. Santerre, Jr., passed away Tuesday evening, December 17, 2019 after a period of declining health.        

   Mrs. Santerre was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on March 19, 1934, a daughter of the late Francis and Laurette (Goulet) Belleau. She grew up in Dracut, MA and has made her home in Nashua for the past 63 years.  

   Frances was a homemaker and later worked as a seamstress at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua until she retired.

   Later in her life, for a number of years, Frances prepared communion at Grace Fellowship Church in Nashua, now known as Gate City Church.  Frances adored babies, loved animals, and was always eager to help those in need.  

   In addition to her parents, Frances was predeceased by her husband Arthur, who passed away in 1978. They were married in June of 1956 and shared 22 years together.

    Members of her family include four children, Arthur E. Santerre, III, and his wife Nancy of Norristown, PA, Jacwelyn Santerre of Derry, Marianne Carlberg and her husband Aaron of Santa Maria, CA and Marguerite Girouard of Nashua; five grandchildren, Christina Ward, Peter Santerre, Emily Santerre, D.J. Girouard and Daniel Girouard; five great-grandchildren, Caden, Grace, Livia, Samantha and Cassidie; a brother, Robert Belleau of Dracut, MA; two sisters-in-law, Marcella Sprague and Andrea Santerre; also many nieces and nephews.

Claire C. Robert

   Claire C. Robert, 87, of Nashua, wife of Roland E. Robert, passed away Monday morning, December 9, 2019 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a period of declining health.        

   A lifelong resident of this city, Mrs. Robert was born on June 4, 1932, one of thirteen children of the late Joseph and Alexandra (Pellerin) Jean. Claire attended the former St. Louis de Gonzague Parochial School and was a communicant of the Parish of The Resurrection.

   Claire was hired by the Nashua Police Department as their first Meter Maid. She also worked for Sprague Electric Company for several years.

    She was a loving wife and mother, who enjoyed fishing and clam digging with her husband.

    Members of her family include her husband Roland, whom she married on June 25, 1949 and shared 70 years together; her sons, Glenn E. Robert of Henniker and the late Donald A. Robert who passed away in 2015; her daughter-in-law, Diane Robert of New Port Richey, FL; granddaughter, Abigail Corson of Florida; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Noella Ouellette of Hudson, Yvonne Ouellette and her husband Jerry of Hollis and Beatrice Harwood of Texas; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.

   There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Parish of The Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, Thursday morning, Decmeber 12th at 11 o’clock. Benjamin F. March, Jr.

   Benjamin F. March, Jr., 55, of Nashua, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon, December 4, 2019.        

   A resident of Nashua since the mid-1960s, Ben was born in Burlington, Vermont on January 27, 1964, son of Martha Ann (Townsend) March and the late Benjamin F. March.  Educated in local schools, he was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1982.

   Ben has worked in the construction industry for many years and was employed with ACE Home Medics of North Reading, MA.

   An active outdoorsman, Ben enjoyed boating, skiing and snowmobiling.  He also enjoyed carpentry.

    Members of his family include his wife, Margaret M. (O’Grady) March, whom he married on January 27, 1995 and shared 24 years together; his son, Benjamin F. March III and his significant other Morgan Beaulieu of Fitzwilliam, NH; his daughter, Shannon M. March of Nashua; his granddaughter, Rylynn March; his mother, M. Ann March of Arizona; his sister, Deborah A. March of Nashua; and three nephews, Mark, Matthew and Lucas Espersen.

Roland H. LaPlante

  Roland H. LaPlante, 86, of Nashua and former member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, passed away at his home, Monday afternoon, December 2, 2019, after a brief illness.        

  A lifelong resident of this city, Roland was born on July 27, 1933, a son of the late Edouard P. and Juliette M. (Theriault) LaPlante, and made his home in the French Hill neighborhood for the greater part of his life. After graduating from Nashua High School in 1951, Roland served with the Navy during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954. He then continued his education at Gardner State Hospital School of Nursing in Gardner, MA, graduating as a Licensed Practical Nurse.  

   During his long career in nursing, Roland worked at several medical institutions including Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Holy Family Hospital in Haverhill, MA and Holy Family Hospital formerly Bon Secours Hospital in Methuen, MA. He also worked part time as a cashier at Rockingham Park in Salem from 1963 to 1980.

   Roland was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives in 1961 and served until 1965 and was Chairman of the Nashua Delegation. He was later re-elected to the House of Representatives in 2012.

   A devout Catholic, Roland was a communicant of St. Patrick Church and was a Eucharistic Minister at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua for ten years. In his leisure time, Roland enjoyed following his two favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Red Sox.

    Members of his family include his wife, Sally A. (Higgins) LaPlante, whom he married on January 3, 1958 and shared over 61 years together; his four children and their spouses, Denise and Claude Dupre of St. Hyacinthe area of Quebec, Canada, Ronald LaPlante of Nashua, Lawrence and Amanda LaPlante of Clayton, NC, and Michelle Duffy of Hampton Falls; a grandchild, Veronique Dupre; and great-grandchild, Arnaud Paquette both of Canada; sister-in-law, Hazel (Maroon) LaPlante and her daughter, Monique LaPlante of Candiac, PQ, Canada. In addition to his parents, Roland was predeceased by his brother, Bernard P. LaPlante, who passed away in January 2002.

Susan A. Conroy

CONROY, SUSAN

    Susan A. (Foye) Conroy, 64, a resident of Nashua for the past year and formerly of Dracut, MA, passed away Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH surrounded by her loved ones, after a very brief battle with Brain cancer.

   A daughter of John Foye of Florida and the late Doris (Hoare) Foye, she was born in Lowell on February 15, 1955.  Susan was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1973 and Tewksbury State Hospital School of Nursing.  Susan continued her education at the New Hampshire Technical College in Concord, graduating as a registered nurse.   

   Susan worked as a registered nurse for many years while raising her family. In her leisure time, she loved spending time with her grandchildren, listening to music, especially The Beatles, and enjoyed gardening.  Susan lived a life of service and compassion as she volunteered and donated to many worthy causes that were close to her heart such as the Special Olympics.

    Besides her father, members of her family include her daughters, Danielle Conroy and Steve Ramos, and Katelyn Conroy and her fiancé Ike Nnama; three grandchildren, Nilo, River and Lola; her sister, Jennifer Foye and her partner Ralph Pendleton; and a niece, Meghan.

James A. Cumming

CUMMING, JAMES A

James Allen Cumming, 79, of Concord, husband of Janet E. (Gabriel) Cumming, passed away at his home, Wednesday morning, November 27, 2019 after a period of declining health.        

  Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on July 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Arthur and Bernice (Legay) Cumming. During his youth, Jim lived in Tyngsborough, MA and graduated from Lowell High School Class of 1958. An Army veteran, Mr. Cumming served during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1970.

   Jim had been employed at Nashua Corporation for twenty-six years and then worked at the University of New Hampshire until his retirement in 2011.

   In his leisure time, he enjoyed traveling, music, flea marketing, watching TV and spending time with his family. Jim was a member of Grace Episcopal Church.

    Members of his family include his wife Janet, whom he married on February 1, 1969 and enjoyed almost 51 years together; his daughters and son-in-law, Virginia A. and Roger Douillette, Jr. of Pembroke, and Cynthia M. Cumming of Concord; his son, Scott D. Cumming of Concord; a grandson, Thomas Douillette of Pembroke; two sisters, June Prescott of Milbridge, Maine and Barbara Messier of Nashua; also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by two sisters, Bernice “Bunny” Whitworth and Muriel Nichols.     

   There are no calling hours. A Graveside Service and Army Honors will take place at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen, Wednesday, December 11th at 11 a.m. A celebration of life lunch will immediately follow the services at Grace Episcopal Church, 30 Eastman Street, Concord. Friends are invited to attend. Joseph Paul Jepsen

Joseph Paul Jepsen, 85, of Nashua, NH died November 25, 2019 after a long illness. He was raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, the son of the late Robert Jepsen Sr. and Josephine (McSweeney) Jepsen.

Joseph lived in New Hampshire for over 59 years. He graduated from Boston College with a BS in Physics, served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, worked at the National Security Agency and also worked many years in engineering and management roles in the aerospace industry.

Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Carrie. Beloved by his family, Joseph is survived by his five children, seventeen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, his brother Robert Jepsen Jr. and his wife Mary, his sister Virginia Lane and her husband Bill, and his sister Janet Mogilnicki and her husband Ted.

Services will be held at St. John Neumann Church, 708 Milford Road, Route 101A in Merrimack  on Saturday, December 7th at 1:30 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Joseph’s memory may be made to Home Health and Hospice Care, 7 Executive Park Drive Merrimack, NH 03054.

John G. Economopoulos

Economopoulos, John G.

  John G. Economopoulos, 96, Nashua native and longtime educator, passed away at his home, Friday morning, November 22, 2019 after a brief illness.       

   A son of the late George J. and Nicolitsia (Dogopoulos) Economopoulos, he was born in Nashua on February 27, 1923. After graduating from Nashua High School in 1941, John enlisted in the Army and served as a combat infantryman under General George Patton during World War II.

  After the war, John attended the University of New Hampshire, where he earned his BA and MEd in education. He completed his post-graduate work at Columbia Teacher’s College. While at UNH, John met Dorothy Angelopoulos of Dover, NH. They married in 1949 and shared 70 years together until her passing on April 30th of this year.

   A life-long New Hampshire educator, John began his career as a high school history teacher and then served as a high school principal in the communities of Newmarket, Henniker and Hillsboro-Deering. He was the principal of Woodman Park Elementary School in Dover before joining the State Department of Education in 1958. For 33 years, John worked tirelessly as the Director of Elementary Education and Assistant Chief of the NH Department of Education. He had a lasting impact on public education in NH, developing the state’s first elementary school guidelines and standards. Throughout his life John believed in the power of education and the potential of each and every student.  

   John loved Greek food, York Beach, the Red Sox and bowties. Most of all, he loved his family. He will be deeply missed by his daughter and son-in-law, Karen Economopoulos and Stephen Thomas and their children, Kylie and Alexa; his son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Nancy Economopoulos and their children, Johnny and Jason; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, John was predeceased by three brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan & Kiki, Peter & Penny, and Harry & Evelyn and cousin, Sam “Kiri” Dogopoulos.    

   There are no calling hours. His funeral service will be held in Saint Philip Greek Orthodox Church, 500 West Hollis Street, Nashua, Saturday, December 7th at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Saint Philip Church Campership Program, 500 West Hollis Street, Nashua, NH 03062.
