Leonard W. Dailey, 89, of Hollis, NH, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 9, 2017 in Nashua, NH.

Len was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on June 23, 1928, the youngest son of the late George E. and Josephine (Reardon) Dailey. He was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth (Sherlock) Dailey, who passed away on May 21, 1989. They were married on August 13, 1955 and shared over 33 years of marriage.

He grew up in Billerica, MA, and as a youth worked on the family dairy farm. Len attended Keith Academy and graduated in 1947. He then attended Merrimack College, graduating in 1951, where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing. After college, Len enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict in Alaska. He obtained the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged. Len opened Nashua Finance Company, Inc., in Nashua and operated the business for thirty years until his retirement.

Len enjoyed winter vacations in Sarasota, Florida, with his wife and family members for many years. In addition, Len enjoyed reading, following national politics, golfing, ballroom dancing, gardening, and outdoor work. Len was a fan of the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. He was most fulfilled by time spent with family and friends.

Len is survived by his three devoted children: Barbara Dailey and her husband, James P. Manning of Ogunquit, Maine; Leonard W. Dailey, Jr. and his wife, Karen A. of Hollis, NH; and Marianne Dailey of Nashua, NH; he also leaves behind thirteen nieces and nephews and their children, and friends. In addition to his parents and his wife, Len was also predeceased by his brothers, Robert F. Dailey and George E. Dailey, Jr.; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Ellen Sherlock.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Sunday, November 12th from 4 to 7 p.m. Committal prayers and burial will take place on Wednesday, November 15th at 11 a.m. at Saint Patrick Cemetery, 1251 Gorham Street in Lowell, MA. Thelma P. Betts

Thelma P. (Johnson) Betts, 100, of Hudson, NH, widow of A. Radley Betts Sr., passed away Thursday morning, November 9, 2017 at Fairview Nursing Home.

Mrs. Betts was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts on August 20, 1917, a daughter of the late Edwin and Katherine (Burns) Johnson. A resident of Hudson since the mid-1970s, Thelma previously made her home in Marlborough, Boston and Southborough, Massachusetts. She was a longtime volunteer at Alvirne High School in Hudson and Memorial Hospital now known as Southern New Hampshire Medical Center in Nashua.

She was a member of the Community Church of Hudson and held membership in the Order of Eastern Star of Stoneham, MA.
In her leisure time, Mrs. Betts enjoyed traveling to many destinations including Austria, Switzerland and Alaska and was an avid Ten Pin bowler.

Thelma was predeceased by her Radley who passed away on March 6, 1981. They were married on April 20, 1941 and shared nearly 40 years together. She was also predeceased by her siblings, Carl Johnson and Edith Watkins; and her daughter-in-law, Maureen (McLaughlin) Betts.

Members of her family include her children, A. Radley Betts Jr. and Janet Smith and her husband Robert, all residing in Weare, NH; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Harold Loring Baldwin

Harold Loring Baldwin, 87, passed away Wednesday evening, November 8th, 2017 at his home with his family in Nashua.
Harold was born on December 6, 1929 to the late Carlotta Iola Crockett and Harold Seymour Baldwin. He was raised in Nashua and attended local schools. He graduated from Nashua High in 1947 and went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Business at Colby College. Harold played football as a fullback throughout both high school and college. Following college, he enlisted in the U.S. Marines Corp, serving in 1951 during the Korean War. When Harold returned home, he began working for Nashua Trust Bank, where he met his wife, Shirley (Bourdon). The two married on August 22, 1954. Harold went on to work for Nashua Corporation, Sentry Insurance, and retired from Blue Cross Blue Shield.

Throughout his career, Harold was a well-respected businessman. He retired early to dedicate time to care for his disabled wife Shirley until her passing on May 28, 2000. Over the course of his life he enjoyed boxing, football, golf, Readers Digest, the Telegraph and time with his family. Over his life he donated to multiple local charitable and religious organizations. In the last several years of his life, he was cared for by his family, so he could enjoy his life at home. Harold was a very generous man who was always there for his family.

In addition to his wife, Harold was predeceased by his parents and his son Michael C. Baldwin. He is survived by his children Claude Russell Baldwin and his wife, Cathy West; Cindy Lee Loranger; Daniel Loring Baldwin and his wife Michelle Baldwin; grandchildren Lonnie, Jason, Brittni, and Russell Baldwin; Jessica, Seth, and Dustin Loranger; Ryan and Derek Baldwin; great-grandchildren Tavian, Kaden, Jalee, Emma, and Abby Loranger; Milo and Juniper Guertin-Loranger; Brayden, McKenzie, Julianna, Jaxden, Natalie and Alyssa Baldwin; Joseph and Sabrina Mangiafico; his sister, June Kamieniecki and her children Krista and Barry; as well as several cousins.

Debra L. Lemelin, 55, of Nashua, NH, sadly passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017 after suffering a long illness that stemmed from a brain aneurysm she had several years ago.

She was born April 22, 1962 in Nashua, NH, a daughter of Joan L. Lemelin (Marchand) from North Andover, MA and predeceased by her father, Arthur J. Lemelin of Nashua, NH. Debbie was educated in local schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School.

In addition to her mother, Debbie will be sadly missed by her brother, Robert Lemelin and his wife Cheryl Lemelin, her sister Nancy Lemelin and her loved one Paul Courounis, her sister Cathy Lemelin, her nieces and nephews Jennifer Lemelin, Christina and Wendy Lemelin, Michael Lemelin, Jessica Courounis, Jake Courounis, and Zander Adams-Lemelin. She also leaves behind her Uncle Leon Marchand and her Aunt Linda Wheeler. She loved her four-legged friends including Lucy, Skittles, and Snookums.

Debbie was a fun loving, caring, beautiful person who loved to play bingo, make jewelry, and do arts and crafts. She was a strong member of the family who loved spending time together. Her sense of humor and quick wit made her so much fun to be around. She was a Taurus and definitely as stubborn as a bull! She was the best sister, daughter, aunt and friend there could be and will be deeply missed by all who got to know her. Debbie worked as a Customer Service Representative for Old Dominion Freight Lines and enjoyed her job and the great friends she made there.

Her illness may have taken her away from her loved ones, but she will always be remembered in our hearts with great love and respect. The family is grateful to the care, love and support Debbie and her family received from Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA. They helped her transfer from Earth to Heaven in a peaceful way and their devotion to not only Debbie, but to her entire family was remarkable.

There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Louis de Gonzague Church, 50 West Hollis Street, Nashua, Saturday morning, November 11th at 10 o’clock. Priscilla T. Dichard

Priscilla Theresa (Raby) Dichard, 85, a longtime Nashua resident, passed away Saturday evening, October 28, 2017, at the home of her daughter Nancy Collins in Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mrs. Dichard was born in Nashua on December 4, 1931, a daughter of the late Herbert and Malvina (Lorraine) Raby. She grew up in Hudson, NH; was educated in local schools and later earned her GED in 1978. She also attended classes at Rivier College now Rivier University. During her teens, Priscilla worked at the former Benson’s Wild Animal Farm. She and her sister, Doris, performed as “The Raby Sisters” at Fort Devens and other military bases around New England.

After raising her four children, Priscilla worked for a time at the former Horton & Hubbard Luggage Company in Nashua and later became a case worker for the New Hampshire State Welfare at the Nashua office. Following her retirement, she became a civilian volunteer at the Nashua Police Department and was involved in the Neighborhood Watch Program and continued with Officer Robert Henderson of the Senior Relations and Citizens Academy.

Priscilla loved traveling anytime and anywhere; enjoyed shopping at Walmart’s, Christmas Tree Shops and Job Lots. She also enjoyed Peanut Butter Cups, Ice Cream at Sullivan Farms, and loved all animals and her “Cabbage Patch Babies”.

Mrs. Dichard was a communicant of the Parish of The Resurrection and the former St. Francis Xavier Church, where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. She held membership in the Women’s Auxiliary of the American Legion James E. Coffey Post #3 of Nashua.

Members of her family include her children, Robert Dichard of Amherst, NH, Nancy Collins of Myrtle Beach, SC, Paula Simpkins and her husband Joseph of Taylors, SC and Lucille Cote and her husband Steven of Henniker, NH; her longtime best friend, Gerald Leblond; seven grandchildren, Nathan Collins and his wife Kelly, Aaron Collins and his wife Jessica, Justin Simpkins and his wife Tania, Shawn Simpkins and his wife Davia, Caitlin Simpkins and her partner Joshua Bartlett, Craig Cote and his wife Casey, and Meagan Cote; ten great-grandchildren, Hannah, Owen, Daphne and Penny Collins; Ava and Emma Simpkins; Mackenzie Kesterson; Abbygale Lemieux, Alexis Bartlett and Dexter Cote. In addition to her parents, Priscilla was predeceased by her brothers, Normand and Maurice Raby; her sister, Doris Raby; her grandson, Jeffrey David Collins; and her former husband, Paul F. Dichard.

Alfred M. Cassavaugh, Jr., 79, of Hudson, passed away Saturday morning, October 28, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua, after a brief illness.

A longtime resident of Hudson, he was born in Nashua on April 21, 1938, a son of the late Alfred M. and Corinne V. (Galipeau) Cassavaugh. Alfred was educated in Nashua schools and was employed with the former J.F. McElwain Shoe Company for over twenty- five years.

In addition to his parents, Alfred was predeceased by his wife, Carmen M. (Choiniere) Cassavaugh who passed away in December of 1983; his brothers, Robert Cassavaugh and Paul L. Cassavaugh; and his brother-in-law, Daniel P. Brooks.

Members of his family include his three children, David Cassavaugh of Manchester, NH, Richard Cassavaugh of Rochester, NH and Katherine Schmitts of Parkton, MD; five grandchildren, Michael Cassavaugh, Merissa Cassavaugh, Clara Schmitts, Cassandra (Cassavaugh) McConnell and Anna Schmitts; his sister, Maureen Brooks of Belmont, NH; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ralph R. Smith III

Ralph Robert Smith III, 59, husband of Deborah L. “Deb” McCoy, passed away Friday, October 27, 2017.

Born on February 1, 1958 in Philadelphia, PA, he is a son of Joan Elizabeth (Ross) Smith of Fall River, MA and the late Ralph Robert Smith Jr. of Buffalo, NY.
He attended Penncrest High School in Media, PA and was a graduate of the college of engineering at the University of Delaware. He received his Masters in Business from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI).

Known to the world as “Sam”. Sam earned his name when his grandfather, Ralph R. Smith Sr., picked him up for the first time. His grandfather pronounced “I’m going to call you Sam!”. The name stuck.

He was employed at Raytheon. He joined Raytheon Company in 1981 as an electrical engineer crossing 37 years in June.

Sam had many passions. He was an avid road and mountain bike cyclist. He could discuss frame geometry, gruppos or wheel geometry for hours. He loved being on the water. This love started while sailing with his father on the Chesapeake Bay as a young boy. He also had a keen interest in photography. His PC was filled with pictures of his bikes, nature and the occasional video of V-8 engine burble.

Everyone who knew Sam, loved Sam. He was fun-loving, sharp witted and a man of many talents. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

Sam will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Deb, with whom he shared 31 years together; his mother, Joan E. Smith; his sister, Constance E. Smith of Media, PA and his brother, Master Sergeant USAF (ret) Andrew E. Smith of Mount Holly, NJ along with his aunt, uncles, nephews and friends. His funeral service will be private. Alexander P. Gurskis, 77 yrs. old of Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully at home, on Friday October 27, 2017. He was predeceased by the love of his life and wife of 52 yrs., Joanbeth L. Gurskis (Dimond) and his parents, Peter and Anna Gurskis.

Al was a life-long resident of Nashua, born at Nashua Memorial Hospital on April 24,1940. He was a graduate of Nashua High School, class of 1957. After which time he was offered an Architectural Scholarship but declined, to instead follow his heart by becoming a devoted, loving husband and proud father to 5 beautiful children.

Al’s strong sense of commitment was further evident by his lengthy career at the Nashua Telegraph. After starting there as a paperboy, he held several positions until he eventually retired as a Pressman in 2005 after nearly 48 years. He was best known and appreciated by his co-workers for his hard work, playful sense of humor and willingness to help anyone in need.

Al was a true family man. Through the years, he and his wife continued to fill their hearts and open their home to extended family, friends and anyone who needed a warm meal, place to stay or an ear to listen. It was Al’s humble, kind nature and his philosophy to “never take himself too seriously”, that endeared so many.

Al lived for and loved the times that he could gather his kids and grandkids to catch a Red Sox game, enjoy a cookout or even head to the beach for one of his nearly 50 years of family vacations at Hampton Beach.

Al will be remembered for his warm smile, kind heart and unwavering Catholic faith. He was truly loved and will be dearly missed.

He leaves behind his five children, their spouses: April and Bryan Finseth of Newbury, Kristen and Craig Ritz of Warner, Karen and Todd Therrien of Nashua Bob and Lauren Gurskis of Bradenton Beach FL, Cathy and Kirk Farrell of Mason; and his ten grandchildren: Bayla Finseth, Ava, Toby, Haleigh and Mikaela Therrien, Joshua and Jacob DeAngelis, Bo Gurskis, Faith and Holly Farrell. He also leaves behind numerous relatives, close friends and wonderful neighbors to which we are eternally grateful for their love and support over the years.

Philip W. Mercer

Philip Webster Mercer, 82, of Sanbornton, died on Tuesday, October 24, 2017, at Franklin Regional Hospital, Franklin, New Hampshire.

Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, on December 11, 1934, he was a son of Beatrice Webster Mercer and Harold Hubert Mercer. He attended Nashua schools, graduating from Nashua High School in 1952. He graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a degree in marketing. He resided in Nashua and Hollis until moving to the Lakes Region in 1995.

Phil was employed in various marketing and printing management positions with Royal Business Forms, Sanders Associates, and P. W. Mercer, Inc., in Nashua and Amherst, New Hampshire, and Tylergraphics in Laconia, New Hampshire. After retirement, he obtained his New Hampshire realtor’s license and at the time of his death was employed by Berkshire Hathaway Verani Realty in Belmont, New Hampshire.
He was always active in his community serving on the Hollis board of selectmen for eighteen years, on the Meredith conservation committee and on the Sanbornton zoning board of adjustment. He happily spent many summers on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee, but most of all enjoyed his time at Bruigean An Duna, Ballyferriter, Co. Kerry, Ireland. His last boat was named for his favorite Irish Gaelic expression – Tog Bog E. Along with boating and swimming, he enjoyed skiing and served as a Gunstock Area Commissioner as well as being a member of the National Ski Patrol. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1955 until 1963.

Phil is survived by his wife, Abigail Stanton Mercer; his children, Hugh (Dorreen) Mercer of Madbury, NH; Susan Mercer of Warsaw, NY; Jennifer (Christopher) Simpson of Owego, NY; Jon (Kristina) Mercer of Lawrenceville, GA; Katherine (Shawn) England of Bow, NH; ten grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Phil was predeceased by his sister, Barbara (Mercer) Bryant, who passed away in 1986.

Chin Nam Set

Chin Nam Set, 71, of Nashua, husband of Rattial C. Wang-Set, passed away Sunday evening, October 22, 2017 at St. Joseph Hospital.
A native of Kluang, Johor County, Malaysia, he was born on February 1, 1946.

Chin immigrated to the United States in 1972 and became a US citizen in the 1980s. He attended schools in Malaysia and furthered his education at Lowell Technical Institute, now the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree. He earned his Master’s degree from the University of Buffalo, New York.

After obtaining his Master’s degree in Computer Science, Chin had been employed as a software engineer with Wang Laboratories, Lockheed Sanders, Raytheon, and Thermo Fisher.

Chin was a devoted husband and father, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader, his favorite author being Dr. Wayne Dyer. Members of his family include his beloved wife Rattial, to whom he was married for 37 years; his daughter, Samantha Set, and son-in-law Robb Hughes; also one aunt, five brothers, and one sister.

William H. MacCorquodale

William H. MacCorquodale, 93, of Nashua, passed away Sunday afternoon, October 15, 2017 at his home at Langdon Place, after a brief illness.

A native of Detroit, Michigan, he was born on July 22, 1924, the only child of the late Howard and Ethel (Chapman) MacCorquodale. During his youth, “Bill” resided in Detroit, MI and Chicago, IL and was educated in schools there. Mr. MacCorquodale was a Navy veteran who served his country during World War II.

In August of 1947, Bill married Dorothe Irene Semper, and they made their home in Norwood, Massachusetts for several years before moving to Nashua in 1976. The couple shared 44 years together until Dorothe’s passing in 1991.

Mr. MacCorquodale was employed as a Manufacturing Engineer with the Improved Machinery Division of Ingersoll Rand in Nashua for a number of years.
In his leisure time, Bill enjoyed woodworking and was an avid New England Patriots fan.

Members of his family include his four children and their spouses, Marcia and Jim Harbin of Beaufort, NC, Debbie and Keith Erikson of York, ME, Helene Murphy of Mansfield, MA and Craig and Kelly MacCorquodale of Mont Vernon, NH; and six grandchildren, Lauren, Kevin and Darren Erikson, Shaun Murphy, Ryan Pitts and Scott Killgren.

Paul G. McLaughlin

Paul G. McLaughlin, 60, a lifelong Nashua resident, passed away Wednesday morning, October 11, 2017, after being struck by a moving vehicle near his home.

A son of Evelyn V. (Rush) McLaughlin and the late Robert J. McLaughlin, he was born in Nashua on March 23, 1957. Paul attended St. Christopher School and Bishop Guertin High School until he was afflicted with Schizophrenia in his mid- teens a debilitating illness that is often misunderstood. Paul handled his illness with courage and grace.

He enjoyed many things in his life, including watching a variety of sports on television, history, especially World War II and the U.S. Presidency, engaging in conversations with people about current events and politics, and spending time with his family.

Paul also loved his ability to live independently in his own apartment for the past 28 years with the support of his family and the staff and counselors from the Greater Nashua Mental Health Center and Harbor Homes. Paul was well-liked by all who knew him and will be remembered for his kindness, integrity, sincerity and generous spirit. He will be sorely missed.

Members of his family include his mother, Evelyn V. McLaughlin of Hudson; a sister, Mary J. McLaughlin and her husband Michael L. Hurd of Alexandria, VA; also many aunts, uncles and cousins. James L. Carson, 69, of Hudson, NH, passed away at his home, on Friday, October 6, 2017 after a long illness.
A resident of Hudson since the early 1980s, Mr. Carson was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire on September 28, 1948. He had been employed with the Boston & Maine Railroad as an Engineer for many years, working at the Nashua Yard and traveling throughout New England.
Jim enjoyed boating and fishing and was a devoted animal lover, especially to his dogs.
Members of his family include his wife, Ellen (Collupy) Carson; his son and daughter, Scot Carson of Nashua and Heidi Carson of Amherst; two step-daughters, Michelle Dodge of Hudson and Erin Keene of Florida; nine grandchildren, Ryan, Elizabeth, Abi, Daniel, Amanda, Ashley, Emily, Rachel and Justin; four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Jonathan, Mila and Ellie; two brothers, Richard Carson of Londonderry and Robert Carson of Wilton; a sister, Dolly Gilcrest of New Boston; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Daniel P. Brooks Sr, 78, of Belmont, NH, and formerly of Nashua, husband of Maureen (Cassavaugh) Brooks, passed away on Friday afternoon, October 6, 2017 at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House in Concord, NH.
Daniel was born on July 31, 1939 in Chittenden, Vermont to Kenneth H. and Elsie (Gray) Brooks. Educated in Nashua schools, Mr. Brooks was a Navy veteran, who served his country from April 1958 until his honorable discharge in April 1964. He had been employed as a technician in the electronics industry for many years and later owned and operated a television repair business.
He enjoyed playing his fiddle, listening to classical and organ music, tinkering with his electronics, going to yard sales and flea markets. Daniel especially loved being around his family and friends and also enjoyed the years he resided in Florida.
Daniel was preceded in death by his mother and father Elsie and Kenneth Brooks; his son Daniel P. Brooks Jr; and a sister Beverly J. (Brooks) Hoops.
Daniel is survived by his wife Maureen of Belmont, NH; his two granddaughters, Jessica Brooks and Sarah Gagnon of Nashua, NH; his great-grandson, Kaysen Rauhala; his two sisters, Nancy R. McQuesten and her husband Charles; and Emilie Sue Levesque and her husband Thomas all of Litchfield, NH; his nieces, nephews and close friends, Ethel and Dick Woodward and Teri and Roland Robitaille of Belmont, NH .

Joseph Goding, age 61 passed away on October 3, 2017 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, NH.
He was born on June 10, 1956 to Ann and Frank Goding. He was raised in the Nashua/Milford area. He was a very strong-willed man, very independent, liked to joke around, stubborn, and straight forward. Most of all, he loved spending time with his kids and grandkids. He will be deeply missed and never forgotten. He will forever be in our hearts and memories.
He is survived by his three daughters; Megan Goding, Angela Goding, and Kelly Jo Pringle; grandchildren, Michael Pavlas, Kyle Curtis, Hailie Garcia, Morgaine Pringle, Noah Pringle, Grisalda Pringle; one great-grandchild, Jeremiah; siblings; Norma Heart, Eleanore Bealing, Marion Foucher, Frank Goding, Bruce Goding, John Goding, and Robert Goding; as well as many nieces and nephews. Brian R. Goddeau Patti, 56, of Nashua, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, September 30, 2017 at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center.
Born in Nashua on August 2, 1961, he was a son of Patricia (Goddeau) Patti and the late Richard L. Patti. A resident of Nashua for most of his life, Brian also resided in Missouri, Oklahoma and Fitchburg, Massachusetts. Educated in local schools, Brian was a graduate of Nashua High School.
Brian was a self- employed contractor for many years, specializing in carpentry, flooring and painting.
He will be remembered as a caring and kindhearted person who loved helping others and enjoyed his work.
Members of his family include his mother, Patricia G. Patti of Nashua; his brothers, Scott and Michael Patti of Nashua; his sister, Lynn A. Shaughnessy of Nashua, with whom he resided with for the past three years; nephews and a niece, Kyle Shaughnessy, Amanda Shaughnessy, Michael Tidwell, Anthony Tidwell, and Zachary Patti; also aunts, uncles and cousins.
