Michael D. St. Onge

St. Onge, Michael D.

  Michael D. St. Onge, 29, of Nashua, New Hampshire, formerly of Groton, Mass., died peacefully on July 11, 2015 at 10:15 p.m. surrounded by his loving family as he waved to us on his way to heaven.

    Michael had the soul of an angel, Kind, caring, and most of all compassion for others are just some of the traits he possessed. Michael was born in Peterborough, New Hampshire on October 15, 1985 at 11:08 a.m. He spent his younger years in Groton, MA and as a young teenage into adulthood; his permanent residence was in Nashua. Throughout Michael’s life he made many lifelong friends everywhere he went.

   Michael had a love for roofing and always being outside. One of his favorite places to “chill” was Wildcat Falls. Fishing, dirt biking and a challenging game of chess were his favorite past times.

     Michael is survived by his parents, Laurie and Dave Gentile of Nashua, NH and Ron and Lisa St. Onge of Pepperell, MA; his brother, Nicholas W. St.Onge and his sister, Samantha D. St.Onge along with his nephew Dominick W. Buckley all of Nashua. Michael also leaves behind many loving Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Cousins and friends Michael made a huge impact on anyone he came in contact with.

     Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, on Thursday evening from 5 to 8 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Friday morning at 10 o’clock followed by interment at Riverside Cemetery in Milford, NH. Lorraine C. Newell

Lorraine C. Newell, 96, a longtime Nashua resident, died peacefully, Friday evening, July 10, 2015 at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson, NH after a brief illness.

     She was born in Portland, Maine on July 6, 1919 to the late Lillian E. (Basken) Cross and Raymund Cross. Lorraine was educated in the Nashua Public School System and was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1937.

     Mrs. Newell worked as hostess at the former Greenridge Turkey Farm Restaurant in Nashua in the late 1950’s. She also worked until her retirement at Miller’s in Downtown Nashua in the Bridal Salon as well as in the ladies department. Lorraine was married to the late William R. Newell who passed away in 1973. They enjoyed many years of travel together throughout the United States; and did their share of hiking, snowshoeing, skiing and biking their marriage.

    Lorraine was a communicant of St. Christopher Church and served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years and was a member of the Sodality.

  Members of her family include her daughter, Sharron Newell of Lowell, MA; two granddaughters, Melissa (Methot) Bruneau and her husband Thomas, and Andrea (Methot) Sliwa and her husband Michael; two great-grandchildren – the shining stars of her life – Rhiannon Sliwa and Abigail Sliwa; her sister, Shirley Noel of Raymond, NH; and a nephew Peter Noel also of Raymond. In addition to her husband and parents, Lorraine was predeceased by two brothers, Irving Cross and Harold Cross both of Nashua; and three nephews, Douglas Cross of Nashua, Haydon and Gary Noel both of Raymond, NH.

      The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Laurel Place as well as Fairview Nursing Home for their constant and loving care during her years with them.

Bernard Martin

Martin, Bernard ''Ben''

  Bernard “Ben” Martin, 84, of Nashua, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at his home at Langdon Place, surrounded by his best ones.

       A resident of Nashua since August of 1965, Mr. Martin was born in Woonsocket, Rhode Island on October 13, 1930, a son of the late Omer and Adrienne (Parenteau) Martin. Ben was a graduate of Mount Saint Charles High School Class of 1949 and served with the Air Force as an A1 Sergeant during the Korean War.

      Mr. Martin had been employed as a supervisor for Foster Grant in Leominster, Massachusetts for twenty five years and later worked at the Clarion Hotel in Nashua now known as the Crowne Plaza.

      Ben was a communicant of St. Christopher Church and held memberships in Nashua Lodge #720 Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks and the Knights of Columbus. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golf, bowling, cribbage and loved animals.

      On April 24, 1954, Ben married Claire Ann Tardie in Woonsocket, RI. The couple shared 60 wonderful years together until Claire’s passing on February 9th of this year.

       Members of his family include six children, Beverly Martin of Jaffrey, Robert Martin of Shirley, MA, Joanne Balduf and her husband Carl of Plainville, MA, John Martin of Melbourne, Australia, Kathleen “Katie” Martin of Nashua and Kristen Dors and her husband Eric of Los Alamos, NM; five grandchildren, Eric and Olivia Balduf, Tim Martin, Kevin and Brian Dors; a sister, Hughette LaPierre of Fairfield, CT; also many nieces and nephews.

John E. Six

Six, John E.

John E. Six, 64, of Nashua, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, July 6, 2015. Born in Woodbury, New Jersey on March 2, 1951, he was the oldest son of son of the late Reynold E. and Mildred J. (McKenna) Six of Nashua.

  After graduating from Nashua High school, 1969, he served honorably in the US Air Force from 1970-1974. John earned his Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering from University of Lowell (1979) and an MBA from Rivier University in 2001.

  A Project Engineer and Program Manager in the Electro Optics Industry, John worked at Honeywell Electro Optics in Lexington MA, BAE in Nashua, NH and most recently at GPD Optoelectronics in Salem NH.

   A devoted husband and father, John is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Lola (Strege) Six. John and Lola made Nashua their home since 1974, raising two sons, John Jr. and Bill.  John was quite proud of his family and was enjoying spending as much time as possible with their grandchildren.  As an avid photographer they had become his favorite subject. Additionally John enjoyed hunting, fishing and home projects. A generous spirit, John was always willing to help his friends, family and neighbors with any project or challenges that came their way. 

   He will be missed by his wife Lola; son John E. Six Jr. his wife Christina of Broad Brook, Ct, grandsons Casey & Jack and granddaughter Julia; his son William E. Six his wife Teresa of St. Leonard, Maryland and their three children, Liam, Kate and Adam; his two brothers Reynold E. Six, Jr. and his wife Mary; Robert E. Six and his wife Amelita; his sister Bonnie Six and her husband Tom LaFlame; sister-in-law, Lorena Lighthart; and his many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, Thursday July 9th (TODAY) from 5 to 7 p.m. His funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. Friends are invited to attend. Dorothy L. Shumsky

Dorothy L. (Robinson) Shumsky, 91, of Hudson, widow of Sigismond Shumsky, passed away Wednesday evening, July 1, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua after a period of declining health.

    A lifelong resident of Hudson, Mrs. Shumsky was born in Nashua on January 27, 1924, a daughter of the late Roger and Bertha (Rowell) Robinson. Dorothy was educated in Hudson schools and started her career at age 16 at St. Joseph Hospital. She also worked at the Yankee Flyer restaurant and Sprague Electric Company both in Nashua and the former Centronics in Hudson for eleven years.

    Dorothy attended the First Baptist Church of Hudson and was a former member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Pelham.

     She was predeceased by her husband Sigismond who died May 26, 1979; a son, William Shumsky in 1994; daughter, Linda L. Shumsky who died in July 2009; her brothers, Raymond Robinson and his wife Mary, and Roger Robinson Jr; and her sisters, Eleanor Tong, Virginia Carroll, Phyllis Boutwell and her husband Ralph, and Marilyn Forrest.

      Members of her family include three children, Michael Shumsky and his wife Mary Ellen Bourassa, Kim Frisbie, and Steven Shumsky and his wife Pamela; daughter-in-law, Cynthia Shumsky; seven grandchildren, Kristina Shumsky, Cass Shumsky, Kelly (LaRose) Kierstead, Justin LaRose, Jessica Shumsky, Kalin Shumsky and Dalton Shumsky; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Miriam Latour of Pelham, Thelma (Freeman) Dearth and Marjorie Yarmo both of California; also many nieces and nephews.

Olive Margaret Nichols

Olive Margaret Nichols, 97, of Hollis, NH, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, June 30, 2015, at Greenbriar Terrace Healthcare.

   A native of Worcester, Massachusetts, she was born on July 22, 1917 a daughter of the late Martin Luther and Margaret Josephine (Kavanaugh) Munro. Mrs. Nichols resided in Worcester many years and was educated in the Worcester School System. Olive moved to Nashua in 1951 and then to Hollis in 1956 where she has made her home for over 50 years.

   Mrs. Nichols had been employed with the former Sanders Associates in Nashua as a key punch operator for 26 years.

   In her leisure time, Olive loved sewing, knitting, gardening and animals. She was a longtime member of the Faith Baptist Church of Hollis.

   She was predeceased by her former husband, Francis K. Nichols who died in 2001; her brother Albin T. Munro and his wife Ann; and her nephew Martin Munro.

   Members of her family include her daughter and son-in-law, Candie Lee and Robert Bowman of Hollis; two granddaughters, Heather Lee (Bowman) Gass and her husband William, and Ashley Brooke Bowman all of Nashua.

    SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held in the Faith Baptist Church, Wheeler Road in Hollis, Saturday morning, July 11th at 10 a.m. Friends are invited to attend. Joan Beth Labombarde

  Joan Beth Labombarde, a native and lifelong resident of Nashua, NH, died unexpectedly at her home, Sunday, June 28, 2015.

   She was born in Nashua on September 24, 1959, a daughter of the late Philip deGaspe Labombarde and Frances Ann (Merritt) Labombarde. Joan was educated in Nashua schools and graduated from Nashua High School Class of 1977.

    Joan loved horses and dogs, and for a number of years operated a dog grooming business, Joa’s Place in Amherst and Nashua. She was an excellent cook and talented baker. Joan also worked for many years in the bakery at Hannaford’s.

    Joan is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Peter and Irene Labombarde of Bedford; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Michael Castonguay of Pompano Beach, Florida; five nieces and nephews, Matthew Castonguay, his wife Deb, and their sons Cameron and Zachary of Nashua, Amber Castonguay Martin and her husband Jonathan Martin of Boynton Beach, Florida, Katherine Labombarde of Alexandria, Virginia, Jocelyn Labombarde of Memphis, Tennessee and Lance Corporal Evan Labombarde, USMC of Monterey, California; and an aunt, Joan (Merritt) Ireland of Naples, Florida.

Henry E. Boucher

  Henry E. Boucher, 85, a resident of the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton and formerly of Paige Avenue, Nashua, passed away Friday evening, June 26, 2015.

    Born in Nashua on December 15, 1929, Henry was a son of the late Samuel and Elmire (Belanger) Boucher. Mr. Boucher attended the former St. Francis Xavier Parochial School and was a graduate of Nashua High School. An Air Force veteran, he served his country near the conclusion of World War II.  Henry was employed with Nashua Corporation for a number of years.

   One of eight children, Henry was predeceased by three sisters, Cecile Shislo, Claire Rose Boucher and Gloria Desjardins; and three brothers, Paul, Raymond and Leonard Boucher.

    Members of his family include his sister, Jeanne and her husband Richard Skorb; two sisters-in-law, Irene Boucher and Claire Boucher; also nieces, nephews and cousins.

    SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, Wednesday morning, July 1st at 11 o’clock.   Elizabeth “Betty” (Boggis) Colburn, 91, of Nashua, widow of Gifford W. Colburn, died Thursday evening, June 25, 2015 at St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua after a brief illness.

   Betty started her career as a legal secretary here in Nashua during the 1940’s, married after World War II to pursue a career as a housewife. She dedicated her time to her family and her many creative projects that she mastered during her lifetime that remain as her legacy.

   Betty was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Gifford W. Colburn, who died in November 1999.

   Members of her family include two sons and a daughter, Gifford M. Colburn and his wife Linda of Dracut, MA, Marilyn S. Pieczarka and her husband Raymond of Bedford, NH and James H. Colburn and his wife Susan of Merrimack, NH; her beloved grandchildren, Gifford C. Colburn, Kathryn E. Skouteris, Stacey A. Schulman and Patrick C. Colburn; as well as five great-grandchildren.

Peter C. Everett

 Peter C. Everett, 83, of Port Charlotte, FL, formerly of Nashua, NH and Atlanta, GA, died on Wednesday June 24, 2015 in St. Petersburg, FL.

   Born in Cambridge, MA on December 4, 1931, he was a son of the James and Elizabeth (Carroll) Everett. Peter was predeceased by his brothers, Richard, John and James; his sisters, Mary and Elizabeth “Buh” and by his friend and companion Janet Bernard.

    Peter is survived by his six children, Sally Everett of St. Petersburg, FL, Andy Everett and his wife Sherri of Ft. Worth, TX, Beth Mitchell and her husband Jay of New York, NY and Falmouth, MA, Peter Everett and his wife Marilyn of Acworth, GA, John Everett of Elmira, NY and Patrick Everett of Norfolk, VA; twelve grandchildren; his former wife, Cathy Everett of Nashua, NH and Delray Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

    A lifelong executive in the textile and fiber industry, Peter began and ended his career with his family’s Wonalancet Company. He graduated from the Canterbury School in New Milford, CT.

Merton H. Johnston

Merton H. Johnston, 93, of Tilton, NH, and formerly of Nashua, passed away at the New Hampshire Veterans Home in Tilton, Monday afternoon June 22, 2015 after a period of declining health.

      Born in Waltham, Massachusetts on February 19, 1922, he was a son of the late George M. and Harriet C. (Townsend) Johnston. Educated in Waltham schools, Mr. Johnston enlisted in Army in October 1942. He served with the 330th Infantry and the 83rd Infantry Division in the European Theater including Normandy and Omaha Beach during World War II. Mr. Johnston was a Purple Heart recipient; and received a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

    After his honorable discharge in February 1945, “Mert” resided in Chelmsford, MA and owned and operated Johnston Welding for over twenty years.

     Mr. Johnston was a member of the Disabled American Veterans of Forge Village.

A resident of the New Hampshire Veterans Home for the past three years, Mert

previously made his home in Nashua from 1997 to 2012.

     Mert was predeceased by his wife, Jeanne V. (Biron) Schofield Johnston who died August 27, 2003; his sister, Theresa Dufresne; and sister-in-law, Irene Andruskevich.

     Members of his family include three stepsons, Philip Schofield and his wife Donna of Nashua, Gerard Schofield of Spring Hill, FL and Ronald Schofield of New Orleans, LA; two step-grandsons, Steven Schofield and his wife Rachel and Scott Schofield and his wife Kerryann all of Merrimack; six great-grandsons and one great-granddaugther; two great great-grandsons and one great great granddaughter; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Johnston of Lowell, MA and Shirley Biron of Nashua; several nieces and nephews; and very close cousins, Mary and Alvin Harris of New Sharon, ME.

Lawrence E. Dorval

Lawrence E. “Larry” Dorval, 88, of Nashua, passed away Wednesday morning, June 17, 2015 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack, after a period of declining health.

    Born in Franklin, NH on January 1, 1927, he was a son of the late Charles and Grace (Gilman) Dorval. During his youth, Larry resided in Boscawen and later made his home in Franklin and Concord for several years..

     Mr. Dorval had been employed in the paving business for many years with Berube Paving and Ledoux Brothers Paving. He later worked as a landscaper for Morin’s Landscaping, Inc. of Hollis and also was a self-employed landscaper until he retired.

     Larry was predeceased by his wife, Shirley A.  (Quint) Dorval who died in January 1984; a son, David J. Dorval who died in July 1982; and his brothers and sisters.

     Members of his family include twelve children, Lawrence Jr., Edward, Charles, Lee, Dana, Frank, Doreen, Carol, Grace, Joyce, Tina and Lisa Dorval; also many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and cousins.

Muriel Sullivan

Mrs. Muriel (Toutain) Sullivan, wife of James A. Sullivan, M.D., 77, of 10 Allds Street, Apt. 407, Nashua, N.H., died peacefully at the Hunt Community Pavilion after a short illness on Tuesday, June 16, 2015, surrounded by her loving family, including her husband, children and grandchildren.

Mrs. Sullivan was born on July 21, 1937, in Manchester, N.H., to Andrew and Yvette Toutain. She attended West High School and graduated from Notre Dame College, both in Manchester, N.H. On September 7, 1959, she married James A. Sullivan. Following her marriage, Mrs. Sullivan taught at the Mary Curley School in Jamaica Plains, Mass., where she taught French for one year. She then moved with her husband to Portland, Maine, for a year. For the next six years, she traveled across the United States while her husband served in the army living in Dugway, Utah; Fort Lewis, Washington; and Fort Rucker, Alabama. During this time, they welcomed four children.

In September 1966, Mrs. Sullivan and her family relocated to Nashua where she and her husband have lived for more than 40 years. Mrs. Sullivan obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education from Rivier College while her four children were in school. In addition, she frequently took courses at the Elsa Williams School of Embroidery in Newton, Mass. In 1979, she received a fine arts grant from the Alpha Delta Kappa International Society for Women Educators to further her skills in embroidery. She used this grant to travel to London, England, where she studied early century lace and embroidery techniques. Upon her return, she obtained employment at Pine Manor College where she taught the History of Embroidery and Techniques for several years. Mrs. Sullivan was also employed by the Nashua Adult Learning Center where she oversaw the afterschool program and was instrumental in developing before school, vacation and summer child care programs throughout Nashua, Hudson and Merrimack. Later she worked at the Parent Education Center in Concord, N.H., advocating for disabled children, and then later retired.

Mrs. Sullivan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to so many. She is survived by her loving husband James A. Sullivan, M.D., to whom she was married for 56 years; daughter Joanne (Sullivan) Richardson and husband Kevin Richardson; daughter Catherine (Sullivan) Stockman and husband Steve Stockman; son Timothy J. Sullivan and wife Lynn (Matton) Sullivan; daughter Laurie (Sullivan) Tannenbaum and husband Keith Tannenbaum; grandchildren James Cathcart, Keith Richardson, Jeff Stockman, Jen Stockman, Adam Matton, John Sullivan, Zachary Tannenbaum, and Dillon Tannenbaum; and cousin Yolande (Michaud) Nicknair. She was predeceased by her sister Pauline (Toutain) Popek, and parents Yvette and Andrew Toutain.

William J. Martin Jr

   William J. Martin Jr., 76, of Nashua, formerly of Everett, MA, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Tuesday, June 16, 2015.

    A resident of Nashua since 1976, Mr. Martin was born in Everett, Massachusetts on November 12, 1938, a son of the late William J. and Sara J. (Kearney) Martin. He was predeceased by his step-mother, Ada (Donahue) Martin; a son, William J. Martin III; and a brother, Leo Martin.

    “Bill” was educated in Everett schools and furthered his education at the University of New Hampshire’s School of Life Long Learning. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran.

    Mr. Martin had been employed with Digital Equipment Corporation for 19 years and then worked as a senior technical writer for many companies.

    He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed reading and computers in his leisure time.

     Members of his family include his wife of 48 years, Mary L (Francoeur) Martin of Nashua; his.  children, Allan M.Martin and Dee Dee J. Martin; four grandchildren, Allan, Matthew, Ashleigh and Nicole; and four great-grandchildren, Lisa Marie, William, Grayson and Angelina.

    Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday, June 22nd from 3 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, Tuesday morning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden, MA. Jason L. Potter, 29, of Nashua, NH, formerly of North Stratford, NH, died unexpectedly Friday June 12, 2015 in Epsom, NH.  He was the loving father of Jason L. “JJ” Potter Jr and Dalyla L Potter.

Born in Colebrook, NH on March 31, 1986, he was the son of Karie (Congdon) (Potter) Boucher and her husband David Boucher, of Nashua, NH and Linwood “Frog” Potter III and his wife Shelly, of Groveton, NH.  He received his education in the Nashua, NH School System and the Groveton, NH School System and was a graduate of Groveton High School class of 2004.

Jason had most recently been employed as a landscaper.  Formerly he had worked in the construction industry and was considered a “Jack of all trades.”

In his free time Jason enjoyed the outdoors.  He was passionate in all he accomplished.  He loved to fish and hunt, snowmobile, four wheeling on his ATV, and just about any activity that could be enjoyed outdoors.  He was a mechanic by nature and there was nothing he could not fix when broken.  Most of all Jason enjoyed being in the company of his children, teaching them his skills and watching them grow.

In addition to his son, daughter, mother and father, he is survived by his partner and the mother of his children Amanda Robinson of Groveton, NH, his sister Harleigh Boucher of Nashua, NH, and Courtney Potter of Groveton, NH, three step sisters and two step brothers Amber, Cori, Terri, Bobby and Ross, his maternal grandmother Claire A. Congdon of Merrimack, NH, his gramps Tommy Fogg of North Stratford, NH; his God parents, Lisa Wood and Thomas Bowen; an adopted uncle, Roger Couture of Bloomfield, VT;  and several aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends.

It being his wish there will be no formal calling hours.  There will be a Celebration of Jason’s Life, held on Saturday June 27, 2015 at Greeley Park, Concord St., Nashua, NH from 1 until 5 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to remember and celebrate Jason, outdoors, where Jason enjoyed his passions.  In Lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship benefitting his children has been set up at DCU19 Premium Outlets Blvd, Merrimack, NH 03054.  Contributions may be made to the Jason L. Catherine P. (Quint) Conroy, 41, of Nashua, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Monday, May 11, 2015.

    A lifelong Nashua resident, “Cathy” was born on June 29, 1973, a daughter of Pauline C. (St.Onge) Quint and the late Norman R. Quint who died in 2005. She was educated in local schools and was a high school graduate.

    Cathy loved her children and was a devoted mother. She enjoyed spending time at the beach.

    Members of her family include her mother, Pauline C. Quint of Nashua; her three children, Shelby, Kyle and Nicholas Conroy; her sister, Kelly Hildebrand of Nashua; a niece and nephew, Hayleigh and Zachary Hildebrand; and her maternal grandparents, Robert and Cecile Kilmon of Nashua.

    Memorial visitation will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Saturday, May 16th from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. followed by committal prayers in Edgewood Cemetery at 2:30 p.m. The Rev.
