It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Charles “Big Mike” Hensdill. A man of boisterous, yet kind character, smart, loud, and carrying an immense heart, he left us too soon on Saturday, November 4, 2023.
Charles, better known to many as Big Mike, was born on July 27, 1963. His larger-than-life presence, complemented by his caring nature, was a beacon for those around him. Though he may have been misunderstood at times, his legacy is that of a man with a big heart, filled with affection and generosity.
A graduate of Lawrence High School, Big Mike savored the simple pleasures of life. He found joy in the everyday, whether it was fixing up his truck or indulging his palate at any buffet. Iced coffee and Bud Light were his beverages of choice, an accompaniment to his favorite tunes by Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, and Aerosmith.
Big Mike had a love for entertainment, regularly enjoying 24-hour marathons of the Three Stooges and films featuring Larry the Cable Guy. However, his greatest joy derived from his family. He leaves behind two children, Kevin Hensdill and Tara Gentles; four sisters, Virginia Johnson, Patricia Ramirez, Tanya Bonifas-Martin and Janet Rioch; two brothers, Robert Hensdill and Jefferson Hensdill; his best friend, Chuck Coolidge; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will continue to remember and cherish their beloved memories. In death, he was preceded by his brother Terry Bonifas, Jr.
Known for his wisdom and intellect, one of the best lessons Big Mike imparted was to “Never expect anything for free”. It is a testament to his belief in hard work and the value of earning one’s keep.
As we bid farewell to Big Mike, we are reminded of his zest for life, his big-hearted kindness, and the love shared with his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy will forever live on.
Farewell Big Mike
