Charles J. MacDonald, Sr., 83, of Nashua, NH, passed away at his home on Sunday, July 16, 2017.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts on March 31, 1934, he was the son of Dorothy Young. “Chuck” was the beloved husband of the late Loretta M. (Summerfold) MacDonald, who predeceased him on April 3, 2012. Family members include his four sons and their wives, Joseph and Libby of Nashua, NH, (with whom he made his home), Charles and Tracey of Florida, John and Charlotte of Massachusetts and George and Holly of Milford, NH; his daughter, Jeanette LaFrance of Nashua, NH; fourteen grandchildren, Kelly, Kimberly, Jai, Jamie, Chantal, Sandra, Sean, Jill, Brian, Courtney, Trevor, Corinne, Brook and Mckayla; and nine great-grandchildren, Theresa, Trinity, Colton, Katelyn, Killian, Javian, Ryker, Xavier and Julian.
A United States Army veteran, Chuck served his country during the Korean War from 1951 to 1954 and was the recipient of two Purple Hearts. He also served in the Army National Guard, as a Specialist E4 with Battery B First Battalion 172nd Field Unit in Nashua until 1977.
Chuck was employed for many years at the former Hampshire Chemical and then worked for the United States Postal Service as a EAP Counselor. He played an important role in the EAP program for the United States Postal Service. At the time of his retirement, he and his wife moved to Florida, where he continued working as a crossing guard in Polk City for many years.
He loved seeing the kids coming and going to school; was an avid golfer and loved following the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. There are no calling hours. A Graveside service and Army Honors will be conducted on Friday morning, August 18th at 10 a.m. at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Route 3 in Boscawen.
