Derek was my friend, and a friend of my family since he came to work in Nashua in the ‘70’s, meeting my father Jack Williams. He and Pili often came up to the Lake (Winnipesaukee) to spend time and boat rides with us, and was a true and dear friend. After my dad died in ‘81, we lost contact with Derek. I moved to AZ, got married, etc and it wasn’t until 2014 or so when I lived a few years in Saugus, MA that I looked up Derek online, saw Pili’s obituary, and wrote Derek a letter. We reconnected, him and my mother and aunt, and we’ve enjoyed getting together again and catching up ever since! How wonderful to see Derek again! Derek was kind, witty, honest, intelligent and dependable, and so much more….He had a flair and very interesting quality about him, and was fun! A quality human being…. I just found out he passed when I called Fairview yesterday (I visited him in July when visiting family in NH), asking for his room # which I forgot (since he hadn’t responded to my texts) because I wanted to send him a Christmas card. Anyway, it was wonderful reading all the other comments, largely from people who live at Whitegate, who had a long history with him (and Pili). It is sad that he had health issues during a pandemic and couldn’t get back to the UK to be with family, which he wished he could do. He was a good, good person, who felt like family, and will never be forgotten. My sincerest condolences to his family.

I will always remember the times that Derek returned to visit his Whitegate "family" during his time in rehab. He missed the company as much as we missed him. His stamina and resilience to carry on was inspiring. He was ever the gentleman and a brave soul. Rest in peace.

Derek was my older brother for the last Nine years. You welcomed me to be a part of the Original “Cabana Boys” with Rudy and Moe. We argued and celebrated everyday. Eating scones on Sunday mornings before F1 racing Getting sausages from the market in Methuen. Enjoyed the Scottish history how they invented everything from the Catholic Church to the best engineers in the world. My Family and myself will have an emptiness in our hearts from your departure. Derek, I will miss looking down from my living room window and seeing you working around the pool or enjoying the company of other residents. I'm sorry we didn't have an opportunity to play chess together. You seemed to be so looking forward to it. May the good Lord bless you and always keep you close !

Derek you are the type of guy that I'll never forget. A constant and dependable presence in our lives, regardless of if it was Whitegate related or not. I've caught myself looking up at your balcony to see if you're sitting out there as I drive by. Gone but not forgotten

Derek was a friend for 40+ years. He was erudite, talented in so many ways, and could fix anything. Along with a group of friends we celebrated many Thanksgivings, Easters, and even July Fourths🇬🇧! A life well lived.
