Douglas Alan Carroll, 89, of Nashua, NH, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family in the house he and his high school sweetheart, Lillian D. (Landry) Carroll purchased in 1957. They created a warm and friendly environment for all.
Born in Nashua on March 24, 1930, he was a son of the late Mark Dunbar Carroll and Esther Johanna (Peterson) Carroll. Douglas resided on Reed Street in Hudson with is parents, siblings, uncles and his favorite dog Buster. The family moved to Nashua when Doug was in his early teens. He worked at the former Tremont Theater where met the loved of his life, Lillian Dorothy Landry, whom he married on June 12, 1948.
A graduate of Nashua High School, Doug furthered his education in Electrical Engineering at Lowell Tech (now University of Massachusetts at Lowell). In his early years he worked as a TV repairman then secured a position with the former Deluxe Radio Sales & Service on East Pearl Street in Nashua as a TV serviceman. He was promoted to Manager and worked there until he retired at the age of 62. He opened Carroll’s VCR repair service and ran the part-time business venture from home. Doug produced the Carroll-Dunbar Genealogy collection after Lillian’s death in 1995. His work was submitted to the Peterborough, NH Historical Society in 1997 and cataloged for research.
Doug had many hobbies: he was a skilled wood-worker and created miniature replicas of local attractions. In addition to feeding birds daily, Douglas hand-crafted bird houses. Fishing, bowling, playing pool and horseshoeing were among his other interests. His artistic expression as an organist still plays in our minds. Douglas was an avid Boston sports fan who enjoyed watching the games with his friends and family. He spent many hours recording friends and family then created CD’s for all to enjoy.
Doug was an admirable man who will be remembered as always lending a helping hand, his great sense of humor, kindness, and love. God speed you on your journey and we picture you getting to the Gates of Heaven and wiping your brow with a sly smile and saying ”no sweat”.
In addition to his wife and parents, Doug was predeceased by his four brothers and their wives: Mark D. Jr. and Margery Carroll, John E. and Loretta (Shepard) Carroll, David W. and Virginia M. (Robinson) Carroll, Lawrence D. and Noella C. (Roberge) Carroll, Walter Dunbar, and all the Landry in-laws. His great-granddaughter, Savannah Carroll; his nieces, Debra (Carroll) Simard and Diane McMullen; his nephews, Jon Carroll, James Carroll and John Miller.
Members of his family include a son, Lawrence D. and his wife Donna (Markham) Carroll of Redondo Beach, CA; his three daughters, Linda Carroll, Mary J. (Carroll) Banks of Nashua and Cindy E. (Carroll) and her husband David Dillavou, Sr. of Hudson; also 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, Monday, September 16th beginning at 9 a.m. until his funeral service at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow at Westview Cemetery in Hudson. Friends are invited to attend.
