Edward Myron “Skip” Annis, age 83, of Amherst, passed away December 6, 2020 after a long illness.  He was born on May 27, 1937 in Nashua, NH, to James R Annis and Madeline L. Johnson Annis.

Skip graduated from Nashua High School in 1955.  He was an accomplished drummer for the high school band. As a young adult he joined the US Marine Reserves and was very proud to have served his country. Skip married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth “Betty” Robbins on September 14, 1957.

He started his working career at age 16 as a mechanic for Blue Line Express.  He earned his Master’s Electrician’s License and worked for Nashua Corporation for many years, followed by the IBEW.

Skip was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and the New Hampshire Consistory 32nd degree.

An avid fisherman, Skip had a particular love of fly fishing.  He developed a talent for tying his own flies, and was honored to have been featured in Fly Tyers Magazine for a fly of his own invention.  Skip and his wife, Betty, loved traveling and he especially enjoyed Alaska and Scotland.

He loved animals and in 1977 was extremely proud to have won a first prize blue ribbon in a Grooms Class at a horse show for riding his daughter’s horse, Stormy, while wearing his favorite bright red hat.  The judge noted that he was “a real groom!”. He and his beloved Foxhound, Angela, loved going for rides around town and to Doc Davis’s Ice Cream Stand.

Skip is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty, his son James H. Annis of Amherst, his daughter Linda L. Goonan and her husband Terry, of Weare, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two nieces.  He was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Edna Anagnost.

Private services will be held on Friday, December 11, at the Farwell Funeral Home in Nashua. In lieu of flowers his family requests that donations in his honor be made to the American Parkinson’s Disease Association.

My wife and I knew Skip from years working at Nashua Corporation but I'll always remember him from the birth of our twins in 1987. Memorial Hospital was going through a huge remodeling and the floor the birthing room was on was completely stripped down to bare concrete and hanging wires. The birthing room was wrapped in plastic sheeting in the middle of the floor. I was in the room during the birth in a blue gown, mask, hat and gloves. After Pat gave birth the doctor gave me the twins to take to the nursery. I walked through the plastic curtain with the twins in my arms and came face to face with Skip pulling wire through a conduit. We always laughed about it after. He was the first human our twins saw besides the birthing staff and parents. Skip had left Nashua and was working for a contractor at the time.

As neighbors we got to know Skip and Betty through our dogs who loved them dearly. As soon as the dogs would see them coming they would start barking and prancing knowing friendly pets and a few treats were awaiting them. Skip was always willing help to whether answering questions about an electrical issue or pruning raspberries. We used to think of him as the neighborhood Ambassador as he filled us in on the history and goings on around the block. Our condolences to Betty, Linda and Jimmy. He was a special man.

Skip was a good friend, wonderful neighbor, loving husband and father, dog lover and honest man who could have a conversation with a complete and total stranger. I will miss him terribly. Janet, Don, Rufus and Roscoe Gaynor.

Mr. Annis was a man of integrity who loved his family and who was always quietly present and ready to lend a hand to a neighbor or a stranger. He will be missed by all of us who had the honor of knowing him.
