Erna C. Laing of Nashua, NH, widow of William Laing, passed away at the Hunt Community, Tuesday morning, July 6, 2022 on her 92nd birthday.
Mrs. Laing was born in New York City on July 6, 1930 a daughter of the late Herbert and Margaret Piek. Erna resided on Long Island, NY and was a graduate of Bayside High School Class of 1948. She furthered her education at Hope College, where she earned a degree in education in 1952.
After making her home on Long Island for many years, Erna later resided in Vermont and New Hampshire. She was a member of the Community Church of Douglaston in Queens, NY, the Central Presbyterian Church in Huntington, NY and Main Street United Methodist Church in Nashua, NH.
Erna was an active volunteer at the Holiday House, Women’s Christian Council as leader and secretary, and held many other positions in her churches. In her leisure time, she enjoyed sailing and knitting.
Members of her family include her daughters and their husbands, Margaret and John VanDeursen, Katherine and Greg Cardin and Virginia and Michael Bontje; nine grandchildren, Jeffrey, Scott, Philip, Bill, Mathew, Julie, Ken, Tim and Anne; seventeen great-grandchildren, Ryder, Marie, Audrey, Gregory, Colin, Carter, Bristol, Bentliegh, Bradley, Norah, William, Clara, Olive, Penny, William, Mary and Evelyn; and her sister, Vera Payne.
Her memorial service will be held in the Main Street United Methodist Church, 154 Main Street, Nashua in early September. (The date and time will be announced).
