GAYE HELENE ROSENFELD

October 17, 2020
Rosenfeld, Gaye H. small

On a windy Saturday morning, October 17, Gaye Helene Rosenfeld left us after her bout with cancer. She was 77.

Gaye was born in Brooklyn, New York to Carl and Bernice Ascher, four minutes after her twin sister, Roberta. She grew up in Westbury with her twin, and younger sister Vivienne, along with a menagerie of pets. Her parents love of travel instilled a sense of adventure in Gaye that she kept her entire life, traveling to Europe, Asia, and the Caribbean.

After her two sons, Adam and Jeffrey, were born, along with her niece and nephew Abby and Aaron, Gaye was a devoted mother and aunt switching clothes with her twin at times to fool the children. After her marriage to Ronald Rosenfeld, Gaye finished her BS in biology and went to nursing school, starting a 20+ year career as an emergency room nurse. Gaye always carried surgical gloves, and stopped to assist at accidents until paramedics arrived. She enjoyed helping people through her retirement in 2015

A lifelong sailor, Gaye was happiest on her catamaran on Lake Winnipesaukee or racing in Boston Harbor. She was the club pro at Off the Wall where she taught racquetball in Nashua, and ranked second in the country winning doubles tournaments with her lifelong friend, Chris Turner. Always active, she skied, biked, swam, kayaked, hiked, and snow-shoed. When hip and knee replacements slowed her down, Gaye took up yoga, golf, and pickleball. She played golf until three weeks before she left, hustling prize money until the very end

In addition to her close friends in New Hampshire, Gaye loved to spend time with her family. Her sisters stayed on the East coast, and she often traveled to New York to see her sister Roberta and brother in law Gary Shapiro (deceased). Her younger sister Vivienne, and brother in law Marv Stodolsky were constant visitors.  She frequently traveled to California, to see her son and his wife Lucy, and grandson Charlie. Her niece and nephew also live in the area, with their family Richard, Samantha, Olivia, Alexandra, Natalie, Noah, and Max, and they were often together. She will be sorely missed by all.

We have such wonderful memories of Gaye during the Off the Wall days. She had a hunger to live and as tough as they come. Our sympathies to all. Don and Patti Laliberte.

So saddened to hear about Gaye’s passing. I worked with her in the ER at St Joseph’s and she had the vim and vigor of a 25 yo. She had a great work ethic but also loved to play hard . She will certainly be missed

To Gaye’s Family: I was very sorry to hear of Gaye’s illness and passing. Gaye was one of the best professionals I had ever worked with . She had a work ethic to emulate and endurance that appeared effortless. After a day of sail races in Boston she would arrive for the evening shift in the emergency dept And give 100 percent to her patients and the staff she worked with. May you all be comforted and know that Gaye was respected by many . She gave her all. Fondly, Mary

I will never forget the strength this woman had. No surgery or pain would ever stop her. I always admired her active life. She loved her grandson and often we spoke of grandchildren. She always had a huge smile when showing me pictures of Charlie, she was so proud of him. She was a skilled nurse, taking CEN certifications for years. Her patients were always well taken care of. Gaye you will be missed. I hope you are in a better place with a golf club in your hand. Sincerely June McNeil

My father and I raced with Gaye on Boston Harbor for many seasons. Those are some of my very fondest memories. She will always have a huge place in my heart (and my dad's).

Gaye was one of kind. Such a zest for life! I got to know Gaye during her pickleball days and she was passionate about it. She was kind and funny. Her love for her family was present all the time. She would light up when she spoke of Jeffrey and Adam and especially her grandson, Charlie. Her connection with her sisters was special. She was devoted to family. My heartfelt condolences to her family and friends. Rest in peace Gaye.

I first met Gaye while we were playing in a golf tournament many Octobers ago. Then, when I retired, I took up pickleball and there was Gaye so we were acquainted again! During her shot therapy regimen, she would stop by Fields Grove in Nashua to say hi to her pickleball friends. The pickleball group held a picnic last September and Gaye and Roberta attended. It was fun to watch people speak with Roberta, thinking they were talking to Gaye! She will be missed, and I extend my sincere condolences to Gaye's family.
