George Aaron Ferris, age 92, died peacefully, on Wednesday evening, October 7, 2020, at Fairview Nursing Home in Hudson NH, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

George was born on April 29, 1928 in Worcester MA, son of George and Ellen (Best) Ferris.  He was married to his beloved wife Trudy for 56 years, before she died in 2013.

George served his country in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged. He then enrolled at Boston University and graduated with his bachelor’s degree in journalism. He was a reporter and news photographer for several years until he married Trudy in 1957 and they relocated to Nashua where they raised their family. George worked at Sanders Associates for 20 years and he retired from GTE in 1993. He spent the next 20 years taking daily 10-mile walks all over southern NH, going on family vacations, volunteering, reading and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He was an avid fan of New England sports but especially the Boston Celtics.

George was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He provided so much laughter with his quick Irish wit, which he maintained throughout his illness to the very end.  He was a kind, gentle and generous soul.  His family adored him and will miss him deeply.

George is survived by his children, Joe (Kristen), Dave (Stacey) and Marianne (Steve). His grandchildren, Joe (Amber), Meghan (Stephen), Lindsay (Mike), Sarah (Alex), Matt and Caroline and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents and his wife, George was predeceased by his siblings, Paul, Helen, Hazel, Rita, Bob and Barbara.

A special thank you to the staff at Fairview Nursing Home, true heroes. Thank you all for your kindness, compassion and excellent care.

A private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, October 14th.  For those looking to express sympathy, please consider making a donation to your favorite charity, in George’s memory. Arrangements are in the care of the FARWELL FUNERAL SERVICE, 18 Lock Street, Nashua. www.farwellfuneralservice.com

Joe, Dave, and Marianne— my deepest condolences to you. I’m sure these last several years have been difficult. It’s so good to hear Uncle George maintained his Irish wit to the end. I remember him fondly from family reunions in Nashua and Fitchburg, and lots of family gatherings in between. I’m especially grateful that he took the time to call me about my own writing when I first started out. What a kind, intelligent man. My mother adored her little brother, as Ann said above. Find peace in knowing he’s back together with your mom, his siblings, and Gram again. Love, Beth

Dear Joe, Dave and Marianne, the description 'kind, gentle and generous soul' is the first thing I think of when I ever would see your dad (and your mom). He was indeed. My mother adored him and her eyes gleamed when she'd see him. This earthly world will miss that Ferris generation, and already does. We will all be together again though. I pray for them all, all the time. Do stop in if you're ever around the coast (like your dad did when he'd walk early on). Love, your cousin, Ann Hoyt
