Oulundsen, Geo

George E. Oulundsen, Jr., 86, a longtime resident of Nashua, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon, April 13, 2025, after a period of declining health, with his wife by his side.

Born in West Hartford, Connecticut, on January 11, 1939, George was the son of the late George E. and Margaret (Roche) Oulundsen. He grew up in West Hartford and was an Eagle Scout. George furthered his education at Providence College, where he graduated with a BA degree, and later received a MS from the University of Connecticut. He served in the Army Reserves for 17 years, achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

In 1969, George began a long career as an Applications Engineer with Millipore (now MilliporeSigma) in Laurel, Maryland, and continued with the firm in Bedford, Massachusetts, until his retirement after 50 years in 2019.  During his long career, he co-authored a patent and formed enduring friendships with his co-workers, he affectionately referred to as his MilliporeSigma family.

Since moving to Nashua in 1972, George became deeply embedded in the community, forming a vast network of lifelong friendships. He actively participated in various local organizations, taking particular pride in his contributions to Home, Health & Hospice Care and serving as the Chairman of the Committee to study new technology for a trash-burning power plant.  In his leisure time, he enjoyed gardening, a plethora of DIY projects, and was an avid reader of history and science.  George was incredibly active and supportive of his grandchildren and could be found in various hockey rinks, lacrosse fields, dance competitions and school events throughout the Northeast.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his first wife, Judith (Webster) Oulundsen, who passed away in May 1982, and his brothers, Terry Oulundsen and Harry Oulundsen.

George is survived by his wife of 38 years, Elaine J. (Keech) Oulundsen, whom he married on March 13, 1987; his sons and daughters-in-law, George E. III and Carole of Belchertown, MA, and Nils O. and Pamela of Exeter, NH; four grandchildren, George E. “Ted” IV, Owen, Max, and Lily; two sisters-in-law, Judy Buckley (widow of Terry Oulundsen) of Durham, NC, and Ellen Oulundsen (widow of Harry Oulundsen) of Ponte Vedra, FL; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua, on Thursday, April 24th, from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Joseph The Worker Church, 777 West Hollis Street, Route 111, Nashua, on Friday, April 25th at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery. We first met George 50 years ago while watching our sons pushing pylons round at a local Nashua hockey rink while they were learning how to skate. Dotie and I have been close friends with George and his family ever since that first meeting in that frigid ice rink. We have great memories of George and his family joining us and our family and friends every Christmas eve for years. He was always a delight to talk to and a plethora of knowledge on a multitude of subjects. We will miss him. We send all our love and condolences to his family.

Dearest Elaine, George, Nils and Families, Having your dad (husband, grandfather) in our lives was pure joy. He always made everyone smile with his quick wit and never ending comical antics. He was a true optimist and always had a story to tell. He had a kind heart and the greatest laugh and smile. I can hear it as I type this and it makes me smile. I remember his love of classical music and his iconic collection of National Geographic. He was always the one taking photos and video and I know they are full of wonderful memories. We all loved him very much and he will be sadly missed. He was a true gift and I’m forever grateful to have had him in my life. My heartfelt sympathy, love and prayers to each of you. May God’s promise bring peace to your hearts knowing you will see him again in God’s beautiful Kingdom. Rest in arms of Jesus dearest Uncle. I’ll hold you in my heart always. Love, Rhonda and Family xo

It was an honor to have known and worked with George at Millipore. In my personal experience, he was a man who was always available to lend his experience and expertise, and a man who always began a conversation by asking the far more important questions about how you and your family were doing… about your life outside of the workplace. George was a gift, and will be missed and fondly remembered.

George was truly a legend within the Millipore family. His passion for our noble mission of working with customers to develop life enhancing drugs made for a long and storied career. But underpinning that passion and technical expertise was a goodness, wit and team first approach that made him unforgettable. It was a privilege and honor to know this wonderful man and colleague.

Oh my! Mr. Oulundsen! I’m so very sorry for your deep loss, Pam, Nils, George, Elaine and family. I have nothing but fond memories hanging out on Raymond Street with the family. Mr. O and Elaine were huge supporters of all the kids and opened their home to us and were sincerely interested in our lives, plans and futures. I’m so grateful for the opportunity to have been in his home and to have benefitted from his generosity. May he rest in eternal light, love and peace ♥️

I fondly recall the time I first met George he was he struck me as a very intelligent fella and we hit it off pretty quickly and he was a new I guess addition to the Millopore of Bedford Massachusetts at the time and he welcomed me as if I was a long lost friend his interest in science, and his stories was always entertaining and I stayed in touch, but unfortunately, our paths deviated for a while. I moved to Tennessee for a little while, and I came back to Massachusetts, I kept in touch with him and by phone. I guess we never really met very much. I kept trying to get him to join the Millopore alum group that I had kind of pulled together and I had a biannualso not bi annual semi annual meetings. Fortunately, his health prevented him from attending, but his mind was always with with the group rest well, George.

I was one of George's many work colleagues who always enjoyed his stories, his interest in science, and love of his work and customers. The many stories he told were always so inspiring and interesting. He always spoke so highly of his family and friends as well. It was well known that his stories took time to listen too. Often requiring several voice mails and patience to hear the final point or request. The thought of George always brought a smile to many of because of his love of life and passion for everything he did. Hugs to his family and friends.
