Jean D. Mara, 80, of Nashua and formerly of Lowell, MA, widow of Edward E. Mara, passed away at her home, Thursday morning, May 21, 2015 with her loving family by her side after a long illness.
A resident of Nashua since 1972, Mrs. Mara was born in Lowell, Massachusetts on January 12, 1935 a daughter of the late Thomas and Harriett (Davidson) Fagan.
Jean was a graduate of Lowell High School and attended Sacred Heart School of Nursing.
She began her career as a lab technician for Medical Associates in Chelmsford, MA, was later employed at the former J.F. McElwain Shoe Company, Citrus Hills Properties and retired as a receptionist at Pennichuck Water Works.
A devoted wife and mother, Jean loved to cook and entertain her family and friends at family outings, go to the beach and spend time with her grandchildren. Jean loved decorating and keeping her home immaculate She also enjoyed attending performances of the Nashua Actor Singers. Mrs. Mara was a communicant of St. Christopher Church.
Jean and her late husband Ed were married on April 19, 1958 in Lowell, MA. They shared twenty two years together until his death on October 4, 1980.
Members of her family include her four children, Heather Pinnock and her husband John of Saint Louis, MO, John Mara of Houston, TX, Holly Mara and her significant other Dolores Donovan, and Julie Mara all of Manchester, NH; five grandchildren, Johnny, Alison and Eddie Pinnock, Taylor Mara and Rylee Donovan; two brothers Thomas Fagan of Estero, FL and James Fagan of Lowell, MA; two sisters, Claire Devine of Nashua and Frances Brown of Alpharetta, GA; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. Jean was predeceased by three sisters and their husbands, Phyllis and Melvin Wheaton, Mary and Greg Fawcett and Marion and George Belair; a brother and his wife William and Mary Fagan; two sisters-in-law Helen and Mary Fagan; and two brothers-in-law, Michael Devine and Kenneth Brown.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday evening, May 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Christopher Church, 62 Manchester Street, Nashua, Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Edgewood Cemetery.
