KOSKELA, KENNETH L.

Kenneth Leo Koskela, born July 6, 1936 in the foothills of Mount Monadnock to the late Connie (Luopa) and Frederick Leo Koskela passed peacefully at his home in Nashua NH with his children by his side on Saturday June 6, 2020.

Kenneth, an only child grew up in Troy NH where he quickly developed a passion for sports (especially Baseball).  He shared many a summer with his cousins and childhood friends fetching the one baseball allotted for the season in the field of his childhood home.

Kenneth went on to attend Keene High School where he was a participant in Boys State, a letterman in both Football and Baseball and, through mutual friends met the love of his life Elaine.  After High School he attended Tufts, serving 2 years as the treasurer for his fraternity Theta Delta Chi and earned his Bachelor of Arts, A.B. Sociology degree.

Following college Kenneth was proud to serve his country in the United States Army while he and Elaine began raising their family of 4 (honorably discharged in 1963).  He enjoyed his lifelong career in the American Steel industry while working for Symonds Steel in NJ, Edgcomb Steel in Nashua, and Admiral Metals in Woburn MA.

Ken will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, humble and loving man who extended genuine interest in everyone he met.  He had the special quality of making anyone he encountered feel they were a friend.  A natural coach, he supported Nashua’s little league (Kiwanis) and Babe Ruth (Yankees) as a coach for a number of years.

Though his pass-time included many outdoor activities during retirement he loved to golf.  Most of all he loved time spent with family.  His family will be forever grateful for his devotion as a son, husband, father, brother-in-law, grandfather and friend.

In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Elaine M. (Reardon) Koskela, who passed away September 15, 2017.

He is survived by his family: daughter Lynne of Nashua; his three sons,  Scott and his wife Pamela (Gotham) of Merrimack, Bruce and his wife Michaelene (Gaudet) and John all of Nashua; his Daughter-in-Law Elaine (Wormstead) also of Nashua;  His grandchildren Amber and husband Beau, Brent and his wife Erin, Amanda and her husband Gary, Cole, Jake and Brooke; and great grandchildren Hannah and Luc; as well as his much loved sister-in-law Patricia Lilly and husband Luke of North Carolina.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to the City of Nashua Little League.   A private graveside service will take place at Mountain View Cemetery in Troy. Arrangements are in the care of the FARWELL FUNERAL SERVICE, 18 Lock Street, Nashua. www.farwellfuneralservice.com

My condolences, Kenneth must have been an amazing and fun guy. I'm currently staying at the Mariner Resort in Ogunquit Maine and my family and I found a hat in the back of a kitchen cabinet that may have belonged to him. If so I'd like to get this hat to his family. It's a brownish/gray Timberland hat with a 1953 Resident Hunting & Fishing License pinned to it from the State of New Hampshire. Name in cursive writing is Kenneth Koskella. Age 16, Height 5'8", Brown hair, Blue eyes, Town of Troy NH. If this belongs to the family I will gladly send it to you. Thanks, Dave Kohler. Dear Koskela Family My fondest childhood memories are with your parents. When Lynne and I tested them, they were always stern but loving and forgiving. They raised four amazing children, who now as adults, resemble them and most importantly take to your own families the values that your parents instilled in you all- love of family and friends, fun and a zest for life. We are in awe of our parents in their lifetime, and I am in awe of your dad since your mom's passing. His love and kindness never subsided and he fought a courageous battle with dignity. He now lives in eternal peace with your mom at his side- the best end to a love story that one can ever imagine. He had you all at his side whenever he needed you and at the end of his life. I love you all and I will miss his smiling face! Thank you for taking me on this amazing journey with your family. Your forever friend...... Love Deb.

Lynne, I was so sorry to read about the loss of your Dad. I always enjoyed seeing his smiling face when I visited my mom, Jean Cleary, at Nashua Crossings. His happiness was uplifting to see. Thinking of you and your family.
