Lillian H. Auchterlonie, of Auburn, Maine and formerly of Hudson, NH, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, March 30, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Residence in Portland, Maine at the age of 100.
Lillian was born in South Paris, Maine on May 17, 1915, the daughter of the late Paul and Amanda (Koskela) Hilden and was one of seven children. She attended schools in Auburn, ME. In her early years, Lillian worked as a dining room hostess in resort hotels in Maine, New Hampshire and Florida. She then worked for many years in retail for W.T. Grant Company and Woolworth’s in South Paris, ME, until her retirement.
In her retirement, Lillian moved to Buttercup Hill in Hudson, NH and resided there until 2013. Throughout her years in Hudson, she was an active member of the Hudson Seniors. She participated in the organization’s building campaign and enjoyed traveling on their organized bus trips to various places in the United States and Canada. In 2013, Lillian returned to Maine and resided at Schooner Estates in Auburn until her death.
Lillian cherished spending time with her family. She was extremely proud of all her grandchildren and great-grandchildren completing their college educations. She was a skilled knitter and truly enjoyed outfitting everyone with numerous socks and mittens. She would spend hours tending her flower and vegetable gardens and share the bounty with her family and friends.
Members of her family include her son, Willard Young of Hudson, NH; daughter Debra and her husband Brent Smith of Auburn, ME; grandson Alexander Smith of Auburn, ME; granddaughters, Marion and her husband Sean Kraemer of Belton, TX, Elaine Stone of Webster, MA, and Cindy and her husband John Spagnuola of Narragansett, RI; and five great-grandchildren.

SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A private graveside service will take place at St. Patrick Cemetery in Hudson.
