Marie M. Roy, 91, of Nashua, widow of Louis J. Roy, passed away Wednesday morning, November 11, 2015 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a brief illness.
A daughter of the late William and Maude (Lavarnway) Goddeau, she was born in Dannemora, New York on July 16, 1924. After moving to Nashua in the late 1930s, Marie attended Nashua schools. She had been employed for a time with local manufacturing companies including Doehla Greeting Card Company, Sprague Electric Company and International Paper Machine Company.
While raising her four children, Marie worked for the Nashua School District in the Cafeterias of Nashua High School and Amherst Street School for several years until she retired.
Marie enjoyed spending time with her family and friends at her summer home at Newfound Lake for 56 years. In her leisure time, she also enjoyed golf, reading, scrabble, scratch tickets, cryptograms and loved her “grand” dogs.
Marie and her husband Louis were married on November 25, 1948 and shared 66 wonderful years together. She was also predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Harold Giles; and her brother and sister-in-law, Maynard and Flora Goddeau; her brother Harold who died in WWII; and her brother Roy who died in infancy.
Members of her family include a son, Robert A. Roy and his fiancée Karen Johnson of Tyngsborough, MA; three daughters, Anne E. Murphy and her husband Paul of Litchfield, Janet M. Aldous of Nashua and Nancy L. Silvernale of Merrimack; two grandchildren, Jeffrey and Kristen Aldous, with whom she had a special bond; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Three West at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center and the staff of the Community Hospice House for their excellent care and kindness to Marie.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Sunday afternoon from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Her funeral service will be held in the funeral home, Monday morning at 10 o’clock.
