Melvin E. “Mel” Dutton, 66, of Nashua, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday morning, February 3, 2017 with the comfort of his loving family, after a period of declining health.
A native and lifelong Nashua resident, he was born on September 28, 1950, a son of the late Ernest E. Jr. and Dorothy Mae (Titus) Dutton. He was also predeceased by his step-mother, Evelyn M. Dutton. Educated in local schools, Mel was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1969.
Mel began his career working with his father at the former Koppers Industries, Inc. of Nashua and the former Cast Craft of Manchester. He later worked for Owens Brockway Plastics in Nashua for several years.
In his leisure time, Mel enjoyed candlepin bowling, was an avid fisherman and was a coach and umpire for Nashua West Baseball. He also enjoyed following the New England sports teams especially the Boston Bruins.
Members of his family include his wife, Kathleen M. (Buckley) Dutton, whom he married on October 12, 1969 and shared 47 wonderful years together; his three children, Michael Dutton and his wife Shannon (Clarry) Dutton of Merrimack, Eric Dutton and Kelly Burgess of Pelham, and Wendy Dutton of Nashua; three grandsons, Nicholas, Matthew and Zachary Dutton; a brother, Ernest E. Dutton III and his wife Tina (Mosefski) Dutton of Indiana; two sisters, Patricia Ferguson and her husband Danny of Tennessee and Kristen Dutton of Nashua; also nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Wednesday evening, February 8th from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. John Neumann Church, 708 Milford Road, Route 101A in Merrimack, Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
