Richard D. “Dick” Raymond, 77, of Wolfeboro, formerly of Hollis and well-known Nashua businessman, passed away Friday morning, May 18, 2018 at the CRVNA Hospice House in Concord, after a brief illness.
Born in Nashua on February 6, 1941, he was a son of the late Joseph and Alphonsine (Tanguay) Raymond. Educated in local schools, Dick attended Infant Jesus and Sacred Heart Parochial Schools and was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1959. An Air Force veteran, Mr. Raymond served as an Airman Second Class and was stationed at Suffolk County AFB in New York, Alaska and Dover, Delaware during his 4 years in the service.
On May 18, 1970, he founded Dick Raymond, Inc., an automotive repair business and SUNOCO and Irving Service Stations at 150 and 235 Amherst Street in Nashua and also for a time in Manchester. Dick owned and operated the business for 43 years until he retired in 2013. Earlier in his life, Mr. Raymond was a Police Officer with the Nashua Police Department in 1969.
A resident of Wolfeboro for the past eight years, Dick and his family made their home in Hollis for thirty years. His family was always his top priority, however, in his leisure time, he enjoyed spending time with friends, bass fishing, hunting and boating aboard his Ranger Boat. Dick also enjoyed camping and was a fan of the Boston Sports teams.
Members of his family include his wife, Carol J. (Gagnon) Raymond, whom he married on April 18, 1964 and shared 54 wonderful years together; his three sons and their wives, Christopher and Kathleen Raymond of Salem, NH, Kevin and Laurie Raymond of Sandown, NH and Scott and Shauna Raymond of Manchester; six grandchildren, Abbey, Kelly, Michael, Matthew, Jaden and Jackson Raymond; a brother, Charles Raymond of Merrimack; two sisters, Norma Brousseau and Eleanor Diggins; also many nieces, nephews and cousins. One of nine children, Dick was predeceased by two sisters, Lucille Bellavance and Germaine Lesieur; and three brothers, Robert, Normand and Roland Raymond.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Thursday, May 24th from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. John Neumann Church, 708 Milford Road, Route 101A in Merrimack, Friday morning at 10 o’clock. Interment and Air Force Honors will take place in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery in Nashua. Family and friends are invited to attend and asked to gather at the church.
