GILBERT, ROBERT obit

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Robert A Gilbert on July, 21 2024. Bob passed peacefully at home surrounded by his family in Nashua New Hampshire.

Bob was born October 29, 1931, in East Longmeadow, MA. With his parents, Alonzo and Ora Gilbert, Bob, his brother Edmund, and his sister Ora settled in Marlboro, VT in 1940.

In 1954 Bob met and married his wife Arlene Clark, with whom he celebrated 70 years of marriage on June 13, 2024.  A forever loving and faithful husband and father

Bob possessed a high mechanical aptitude and excelled in diagnosing and resolving issues with vehicles, small engines, injection mold machines, and just about any machine you can imagine.  These skills were reflected in his career having worked at companies such as Cellu-Plastic and 25 years with Summit Packaging.  He instilled a strong desire in his children to be independent and problem solvers.

Bob had many interests throughout his life, as a member of the Civil Air Patrol from 1968 1969 earning a Wing Commander Award for his service. From 1965 to 1985, he volunteered as an NH Chief Hunter Safety instructor receiving two Certificates of Merit from NH Fish and Game. He was intrigued and loved reading about all facets of history.  He enjoyed hunting, reloading, shooting, photography, tying flies, and fishing.  He especially loved fishing, shooting, and hunting with his ‘boys’, going for long walks with his constant companion, Missy.    After Bob’s fathers passed in 1994, Bob and Arlene relocated from Nashua, NH to Marlboro VT where they enjoyed frequent wildlife, flower and vegetable gardens,  His greatest treasure in life was spending time with his grandchildren, Chris (pre-deceased July 27, 2021), Ashley, Kenneth, Gregory, Jonathan, Melissa, and Kerstin.  He loved talking with them and hearing about their lives.  Bob is also survived by his wife, Arlene, children Earl (wife Stephanie), Deborah Sue (husband Hank), Stanley (wife Barbara), and Douglas (wife Cheryl), his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He will be sorely missed by all.
