Robert E. Belzil, 96, of Manchester and formerly of Nashua and Hollis, passed away peacefully at his home, Sunday morning, November 14, 2021.
Born in Nashua on April 30, 1925, he was a son of the late Ernest and Delvina (Beaulieu) Belzil. Bob grew up in the French Hill neighborhood and was a graduate of Nashua High School. An Army veteran, Mr. Belzil enlisted in 1943 and served in the Panama Canal zone during World War II.
A longtime Nashua businessman, Bob owned and operated Belzil’s Variety Store in Foster Square from the late 1950s to the early 1960s. He then founded the Dairy Whip and the Seafood Hut on Amherst Street, that he and his wife Gloria owned and operated until 1984. Bob also worked in the clothing business for the former Avard’s, and Bergeron’s Men’s Stores in downtown Nashua and Anderson- Little at the Nashua Mall.
Bob was a communicant and longtime usher at the Parish of the Resurrection in Nashua and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He also held memberships in Nashua Lodge 720, Benevolent & Protective Order of Elks and the American Legion James E. Coffey Post 3.
An avid New York Yankees and New England Patriots fan, Bob especially enjoyed many winters in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Bob and his wife, Gloria N. (Brodeur) Belzil, were married on June 25, 1955 and shared many wonderful years together until her passing in March of 1991.
Members of his family include his daughter and son-in-law, Robin N. and Michael Biundo of Manchester, with whom he has made his home for the past 22 years; two grandchildren, Michael Biundo Jr. and Amanda Biundo; also many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Bob was predeceased by a sister, Jeannette Boucher; and two brothers, Normand E. Belzil and Andre Belzil.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Monday, November 22nd from 4 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated in the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad Street, Nashua, Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend.
