I was blessed to be Rod's secretary until he retired. He was such a caring, intelligent and couageous gentleman. I loved working for him and will always remember him with great fondness. I remember when he began his long battle with cancer and can only say that not many could have done it with such grace. My prayers go out to Sharon and his family.

Our condolences to Sharon, Shealu, Rodney III, and the rest of the family. Our prayers go out to them, and our thoughts are with them. Karen and I were deeply saddened to hear of Rodney’s passing. I met Rod at Olympia high school back in 1961, and we became good friends. Those times in high school were some of my very fondest memories. Thinking of Rod brings them rushing back. He was always the quiet one in our group, but when he did say something we all listened, because we knew it would be worthwhile. I will miss Rod’s wry smile, his sense of humor, his thoughtfulness and caring, and his strength of character. God Speed and Rest in Peace, Rod.

Sharon, This came as such a shock! Linda called me and told me. We had so so many great times together. The history of Rod and you will never leave my memory: from his motorcycle trips up to panhandle country (?) after he met you, to the times playing cards in Taibei! What a great loss. Our sympathies to you.

The bond born in Monterey while studying Mandarin and solidified later in Taiwan branding us as linguists endured through the decades. Though our last connection was many years ago at the MAFAC reunion back at the scene of the "ordinal crime", there was no doubt that we were, indeed, permanently connected. Our communion was unique. One more link in the chain is now missing. Thanks for the memories.

Much love and prayers to Rod's family. He was truly one of a kind and we are blessed to have known him. We will miss seeing him fishing in the early morning hours at the lake.

Rod was a great combination of brains, cool, and passion. He made many friends among his Air Force colleagues. I knew Rod as a fellow student at Monterey studying Mandarin, as a fun-loving young adult in San Angelo, Texas, learning how to operate short-wave radio equipment (oops! is that classified?!), and as a model representative of Americans overseas, a family man, and a good friend with a good heart. Although our paths crossed only briefly, Rod made a large and lasting impression on all of us. My sincere condolences to Sharon and her family. RIP Rod.

My prayers and sympathies go out to Sharon and the family. My all too brief relationship with Rod goes back to 1966 when we met as classmates at the Air Force Mandarin Chinese program in Monterey, CA. He was a wonderful friend, full of mischief and always ready to have a good time. Our relationship carried on for another year in Taibei, Taiwan where he and Sharon, as newlyweds, provided us all with a place to gather and enjoy a taste of home. We had the good fortune to connect once again at the 30th reunion of our class (1996) in Monterey. In spite of those brief, youthful encounters, Rod left a strong, very positive and lasting memory. Rod, you will be missed by all of your Monterey classmates.

Rod was never less than gracious. I remember at DLI in Monterey, he just seemed cooler than the rest of us. The last time I saw him was also in Monterey at our MAFAC reunion, still cooler than the rest of us. My heartfelt condolences to his entire family.

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message. I was so saddened to hear the news of Rod's passing. The epitome of a truly big-hearted and kind gentleman, I've been swimming with Rod (one of the wee hours crew) at HH for the past 2 decades. Rod adored his family, especially the grandkids, from stories he shared. He never hesitated to share a swimming lane and always had time to ask about my two swimmers, now adult sons. As I swam in "Rod's lane" this morning, despite the heavy heartedness, I feel blessed to have known this lovely human being. He will be missed terribly. Condolences, strength, peace and love to Sharon and the family.

I am so sorry to say goodbye to Rod. He was truly the kindest and best of men. He was the first person I met in the community when I started working at United Way...and actually I had my NH beer with Rod...at Martha's exchange...a Bud Light at the campaign finale. Sending hugs and my deepest sympathy to Sharon and the family. Rod was my favorite United Way volunteer and I admired him greatly for his quiet leadership, strong values and commitment to the community and caring support of our staff...particularly me. He was always one of the first to committee meetings and I loved how he always made time to ask about my kids and share stories about his grandkids. When my mother passed a way, last year, Rod was the first one to step in and take over my work responsibilities to allow me to attend to my family. Rod leaves a wonderful legacy and example of community service here at United Way and always in my heart.

Cathy and I were saddened to hear of Rod's passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Rod was a great friend in high school and college (room mate and pledge brother in Beta Theta Pi fraternity). He was an imaginative prankster and always there to give a helping hand. He loved his motor cycles and surprised us when he left college and traveled the country on his bike before entering service during the Viet Nam War. I'll never forget Rod opening the Olympia YMCA on Sundays so he and a group of friends could play "football" in the pool. More injuries occurred in the pool than on the gridiron. Thanks for the great memories....we'll miss you. God bless and R.I.P.

Prayers and loving thoughts go out to Rod's family. I knew Rod from playing tennis with him. He was always friendly, smiling and gracious to everyone. I will miss seeing him roll up in his truck to go swimming or play tennis. He frequently asked about 'my daughter, because she was also a swimmer and it made me realize what a special father he must have been to Shea. He was a wonderful man and he will be missed.
