Russell Short Pond, 78, of Nashua, passed away Thursday morning, June 9, 2016 at The Elms of Milford after a period of declining health.
Born in Manchester, NH on October 20, 1937, he was a son of the late Emerson and Natalie (Short) Pond. Russ grew up in Derry and was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy Class of 1955. A proud American veteran, Russ enlisted in the Air Force shortly after his high school graduation and was stationed in Kansas and Greenland during the late 1950s.
Mr. Pond had been employed as an office clerk for R.C. Hazelton Company Inc. of Manchester for 48 years until his retirement in October 2008.
Russ was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Cedars Church in Manchester and was active with the New Hampshire Pro Life Council. He was very interested in politics and served as a New Hampshire Delegate at one of the Republican National Conventions.
Members of his family include his wife of 35 years, Mary Jo (Welper) Pond, whom he married August 9, 1980; two daughters and a son-in-law, Kara and John Siwik and Noreen M. Pond all of Nashua; a sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Skip Feinauer of Derry; two nephews and their wives, Chris and Nicole Feinauer of Derry and Michael and Tracy Feinauer of Wilmot, NH; and a grandnephew, Wyatt Feinauer.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Sunday, June 12th from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Cedars Church, 140 Mitchell Street in Manchester. His funeral service will be held in the church, Monday morning at 11 o’clock followed by Air Force Honors and interment at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at 1:30 p.m. Friends are invited to attend.
