It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of one of Nashua’s enormously popular and iconic innkeepers, Stan Slosek. He passed away Wednesday morning, June 20, 2018 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after a period of declining health.
A lifelong Nashua resident, Stan was born on January 12, 1939, son of the late Stanley F. and Mary N. (Bugailow) Slosek. He was a graduate of Nashua High School Class of 1956 and played on the baseball, basketball and football teams. He continued his education at the University of New Hampshire.
On February 7, 1964, Stanley founded Stan’s Place on West Hollis Street, Nashua, a local treasure and perhaps the last Pub of its kind in the area, that he owned and operated for nearly five decades until his retirement in 2013. Stan’s Place was the location of many a wonderful memory and a thousand laughs, many shared time with Stan while engrossed in conversations of sport and life. There’s a million stories!
Always generous and supportive, Stan relished his saloon and welcomed people of various backgrounds as simply his customers. There were many!
From his youth in Nashua through high school and college, Stan was a staunch supporter and true friend. He continued his generosity in support of local Championship Softball squads over many years.
Stan’s Place was truly a Nashua Sports emporium where one would be comforted by a walk thru nostalgia with a taste of trivia a moment away. His burgers were incredible and his weekly baked beans and the best “cold one” in town.
We will forever miss Stan and Stan’s Place. He was one of a kind, a wonderful and true friend, representing the best in hospitality in Nashua. Be well my friend!
Stan was the husband of the late Claire M. (Grandbois) Slosek, whom he married on September 12, 1965 and shared 34 years together until her passing on September 23, 1999. He was also predeceased by his sister, Barbara M. Tabor in July 2011.
Members of his family include four children, Dennis M. Kerns and his wife Patricia of New Boston, Donna and Nelson Field of Brookline, Mark J. Kerns and Mary L. Straitiff, both of Nashua; seven grandchildren, Matthew Kerns, Seth Kerns, Cheryl Weatherbee, Laura Nick, Joel Sanborn, Daniel Straitiff and Sarah Straitiff; five great-grandchildren, Keith Weatherbee, Jared Sanborn, Conor Sanborn, Kyle Sanborn and Vivian Straitiff; also nieces, nephews and many friends.
Family and friends are invited to his calling hours at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Wednesday, June 27th from 4 to 7 p.m. Interment will take place at a later date.
