Sylvio R. Rioux, 90, a longtime Nashua resident, passed away, Thursday evening, July 25, 2019 at the Boston Medical Center, after a period of declining health.
Born in Nashua on July 15, 1929, he was a son of the late Octave and Edna (Lavoie) Rioux. During his youth, Sylvio and his family resided in Nashua, NH and Manville, New Jersey. Educated in New Jersey and Nashua schools, Mr. Rioux was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War.
In 1954, Sylvio began his career at Nashua Corporation as a Gum slitter and worked his way up to the position of head foreman of the shipping department. He retired in the mid-1990s after 40 years there. Mr. Rioux served as treasurer of the local Gum Slitters Union.
A communicant of St. Joseph The Worker Parish, Sylvio was a member and Past President of the Holy Name Society. He held membership in the American Legion James E. Coffey Post #3 of Nashua.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed Model Trains, Antique Cars was a fan of the New York Yankees and New England Patriots.
Sylvio married his beloved wife, Lucille A. Tremblay on July 14, 1956 and shared 46 years together until her passing on December 26, 2002.
Members of his family include a son, Michael S. Rioux and his wife Debbie of Nashua; a daughter, Deborah A. Monroe, widow of C. Scott Monroe of Nashua; a granddaughter, Kim Rondeau and her husband Russ; three great-grandchildren, Kaylee, Alexa and Scarlett; his six siblings and their spouses, Lorraine Rioux of Plant City, FL, Leonard and Fleurette Rioux and Bernice and Roland Diggins all of Nashua, Ronald and Jane Rioux of East Kingston, NH, Gerry and Joanne Rioux of Florida, and Richard Rioux of Rochester, NH; special friends, Norman, Claude and Charles; also many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Friday, August 2nd from 5 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Joseph The Worker Parish, 777 West Hollis Street, Nashua, Saturday, August 3rd at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend and are asked to meet at the church.
