Van Savoie, 77, of Hollis and formerly of Nashua, passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Catholic Medical Center in Manchester after a brief illness.
Born in Sayabec, Province of Quebec, Canada on June 8, 1938, he was a son of the late Edmond and Marie Celina (Courtie) Savoie. Mr. Savoie attended schools in Montreal, Canada. He immigrated to the United States in 1962 and settled in New Bedford, Massachusetts where he worked in a restaurant as a short order cook.
After moving to Nashua in 1974, Van had been employed with the former J.F. McElwain Shoe Company, Maine Manufacturing Company and later as a custodian at Teradyne Connection Systems until his retirement.
In his leisure time, Van was an avid bird watcher; raised Canaries, loved his dogs Brutus, Molly and Simba and enjoyed landscaping at his home. He was a communicant of St. Louis de Gonzague Church and the former St. Francis Xavier Church.
One of twelve children, Van was predeceased by his brothers and sisters. He is survived by an adopted son, Randy Guilmette and his significant other Hollie Briggs of Hollis, with whom he made his home; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held at the FARWELL FUNERAL HOME, 18 Lock Street, Nashua on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Louis de Gonzague Church, 50 West Hollis Street, Nashua on Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Louis Cemetery.
